Songde Temple was built in the beautiful gardens of the Lanatai Dynasty in the 14th century. The Temple houses the largest bronze Buddha statues in Thailand, and the rest of the buildings are magnificent. The roof of the main hall is three stories, and there are large and small pagodas behind the hall. The pagoda contains the bone altar of King Thai. The huge bell-shaped Pagoda in the temple is quite similar to the Sukhotai period. It commemorates the famous monk Mahattarasumana, who came to Chiang Mai from Sri Lanka to lecture and lived there. Songda Temple is a favorite of photographers, especially at sunset. Every year from April 13 to 14, a large religious celebration is held here. The sunset on the day we went was not the most beautiful, but it still attracted a lot of photographers who lingered there and forgot to return.
