In 1988, with the increasing popularity of Zigong Lantern Festival, the park was renamed "Zigong Lantern Park" after the approval of the Zigong Municipal Committee and the Zigong Municipal People's Government, and was managed by the Zigong Lantern Trade Management Committee.
