Dining Cafe & Bar Uruu Review

Curiosity got the best of my wife and I, when we passed this small appealing place in Kyoto. We popped in and were greeted by Noriko, Oshima who assured us that we should give her restaurant a try... the chef was just back from an annual two week visit to Italy and was sharing his latest culinary conquests with several other Kyoto chefs in his restaurant that evening. Noriko showed us around this little gem, including a pint size garden in the back, before seating us and explaining the dining option to us (excellent English). Turns out there were a nice selection of inspired entrées with the optional choice of several courses (chefs choice). We decided to go for the complete dinner, including desert - a very good call! The whole experience was one of the highpoints of our 2 week plus visit to Japan. On our recommendation, ten folks in our group tried the place the following evening and confirmed they too had a terrific experience. Whoda thunk... this is a remarkable place.

Came alone. Almost empty but was anyway made.to sit at the bar. Asked to sit outside in the nice patio but was told it was not possible. Ordered a glass of wine and it was bad. I asked and it was 3 days old. They brought another bottle which was open as well. It was also bad. But I decided to stay quiet. Pasta was just OK. Little salad bowl was good. Bread was fine. The atmosphere is nice. Maybe I will come again but only for a coffee.
