About Piazza Navona

Piazza Navona is situated in the central area of Historic District of Rome, beside Pantheon. The three fountains in the plaza are rare artworks, while the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi at the center of plaza was designed by master sculpist Bernini. The latter has four human sculptures, symbolizing the four heavenly rivers. Across from the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi is Sant'Agnese Church. Its front side was designed by Baroque architect Borromini. The circular vault and the angel relief are very intricate and beautiful. Authentic works by Raphael and Caravaggio are preserved within the church.

Piazza Navona is one of the most beautiful and vibrant squares in Rome. This lively square full of portrait painters, street performers and souvenir vendors, is located in the historic center of Rome, just 300m from the Pantheon. Surrounding the square there are lots of restaurants, cafes and terraces with Tre Scalini being perhaps the most popular among them. They make the best Tartufo dessert ( rich chocolate ice-cream dessert) in the whole city. For a peaceful stroll around the square and unobstructed photographs of its lavish fountains and buildings, come early in the morning. You will be delighted fo find a nearly empty square bathed in morning sunshine. The square dates back to the 15th century, but it was built over a 1st century Stadium of Domitian - Rome's first venue for athletic competitions. Underneath Piazza Navona several excavations have been made to uncover the original stadium. Excavations are opened daily from 10 am to 7 pm, tickets cost 8.5 euros.Navona Square is famed for its three fountains, the most impressive of which is The Fountain of the Four Rivers with an Egyptian obelisk as its centerpiece. Undoubtedly the heart of the square, the fountain was designed by Bernini. Four masculine figures represent four rivers: Nile, Ganges, Danube and Plate. There are two smaller fountains placed at each end of the square : Fontana del Nettuno at the northern end depicts Neptune fighting with a sea monster; at the southern end of the square we find Fontana del Moro with the Moor holding a dolphin surrounded by Tritons. Palacio Brascia, placed at the southern end of the oval piazza, houses a Museum of Rome with a large collection of artifacts that tell the story of this magnificent city from the Middle Ages to the mid-19th century. One of the highlights of the square is Chiesa di Sant'Agnese in Agone, a beautiful church built by Boromini, standing just opposite the Four Rivers Fountain. Piazza Navona is an ideal place to linger and do some people wat

The sculpture of the Four Rivers Fountain in Navona Square is said to have come from Benigni. Carving delicate, expression in place, vivid, lifelike. You can only list all the words you can think of to describe your feelings at that time. It deserves to be a masterpiece!

Rome is really a scenic spot step by step. It's dark when we get here. Italy is still bright at 8:00 p.m. Baroque Art ~Street Artists appear again. There are even Chinese compatriots in the small commodity vendors. This square can see three fountains at once. Although there is no grandeur beyond the Wishing Pool, it is much better than the fountain of the broken boat.

Not far from the Pantheon is the Plaza Navona, which is located in the center of the Roman historical area and adjacent to the Pantheon. Baroque Palace buildings, exquisite fountains and romantic cafes have earned it the reputation of the most beautiful Plaza in Rome. It is the axis of the historical center of Rome. It stops many bus routes in Rome, so it is very convenient to visit other scenic spots. Three fountains on the square are absolutely invisible works of art. The "Four Rivers Fountain" in the center of the square is the masterpiece of the sculptor Benigni in 1651. The white marble fountain has four beautiful figures, representing the Nile, Danube, Ganges and La Plata rivers.

Navona Square is also one of the classic Roman scenic spots, and is close to the Pantheon, generally as a travel arrangement. Originally to shoot night scenes, the result was rainy, although not very ideal, but the effect is still good.
