In the seventeenth century, several European powers built many castles along Ghana's Atlantic coast, and the Cape Coast castle was one of the most attractive. The castle was built in 1637 and later expanded by the Swedes for foreign trade. It was the seat of government of British colonialists since 1664. It was not until 1877 that the government moved from here two centuries later. Now the Cape Coast Castle has become a world heritage site, a museum that shows the history of Ghana.
