Modern art meets tradition and East meets West at The Leeum Museum. The museum is split into 2 sections, one for Korean traditional art and antiquities, and the other for modern art by both Korean and international artists. I found the Korean antiquities to be a bit boring, and if you're like me, you can speed through that section and dedicate most of your time to the modern art, which includes some awesome larger and full-room installations. You can easily view the whole museum in 2 hours. Since it's walking distance from the Grand Hyatt and Namsan Tower, it pairs nicely with brunch at the Hyatt or a walk up to Seoul Tower for a compete day.

The Leeum museum belongs to the family who owns and runs Samsung and is a space to showcase its impressive private collection of both ancient Korean relics as well as modern art from Korean and international artists. The collection is sizable with a number of important pieces and some say the collection here is even better than the National Museum of Korea. True or not, the Leeum Museum is undoubtedly one of the best museums in Korea. In addition to its pieces, the museum is known for its architecture and design. The museum's three main buildings were designed by renowned architects Mario Botta, Jean Nouvel, and Rem Koolhaas (respectively) and gives the museum a distinct and unique appearance. The museum's rotunda is also an impressive sight as are the two colossal spider statues outside the museum ("Maman" by Louise Bourgeois).

A small place with a big impact. Great for modern-art and design lovers.
