Before returning to Hangzhou, I took the subway to visit the Wukang Building, nicknamed the Normandy Building. From a distance, I saw this old European-style architecture of the Republic of Shanghai. At that time, the old architecture was very classic, and now it looks very beautiful. Many celebrities once lived in it, but now there are still people living in it. They are not allowed to visit it. Opposite the building is Song Qingling's former residence.
At the junction of Wukang Road and Huaihai Middle Road, the classic works of the architects are really extraordinary. The first gallery apartment, though baptized by years, can still feel its unique charm through the remaining parts. Rare in China, but very common in Europe, the architectural style, with boats as the shape, many celebrities such as old Shanghai famous actors Wang Renmei, Sun Daolin and so on, have lived here.
Wukang Building is an apartment building located at the junction of Huaihai Middle Road and Wukang Road. Because of its unique shape and long history, it is also a tourist attraction now. It can walk about five minutes from the subway station of Jiaotong University to a corner above a crossroad. When it comes to it, you can see many people taking pictures. The shape of the building has a little triangle, which actually looks like one of the versions of the New York Iron Building. It was built in 1920 or so. European designers and the whole building were mainly made of stone, so it is more durable. Up to now, many ordinary residents still live upstairs. The building can be visited, but it's normal to go up. Just look at the internal architecture.
On one occasion, I saw the introduction of Wukang Building by TV station. I was deeply shocked by its appearance. Wukang Building, formerly known as Normandy Apartment, was built in 1924 and designed by Hudeck. During his stay in Shanghai, Hudak also designed international hotels, Daguang Cinema, Muen Tang and other well-known buildings. Wukang Building, more like a long voyage ship, is ready to sail at any time in Shanghai. It is also like Hudak's hint in his heart, wandering outside, always thinking about his homeland. Wukang Building, the repository of Hudak's all feelings, but also marked the vicissitudes of the times. The closer history goes, the farther it goes.
As the starting point (or terminal point) of Wukang Road, Wukang Building, the net red in the net red, is among the best in the old buildings of Wukang Road. It is the first corridor apartment building in Shanghai designed by Hudak, a famous architect. Many famous artists and movies have lived in the building. There are many visitors here. Most of them take pictures with long guns and short guns. We can see its net status. I don't know if the people living in the building will feel a little strange. I hope it won't have a great impact on their normal life.
Wukang Building was called Normandy Apartment at the earliest time, because at that time the area was all French Concession, and at that time the residential areas were named after French place names. The designer is Udak. There are many buildings he left in Shanghai, such as International Hotel, Daguang Cinema, Muen Tang and so on. Walking along Wukang Road to the junction of Hunan Road, you can see a villa with a wide black iron gate, that is Hunan villa. There used to be many celebrities, such as Chen Yi, Deng Xiaoping and He Zizhen.
The beautiful Wukang Road is my favorite place to shoot.
The Wukang Building was burned in the building that had been looking for Hudak before, and the strange intersection itself made the building feel like an aircraft carrier. Because Wukang Road and so on are well-known green streets, the red walls of the building are also foiled by a more hierarchical sense. And now it has become a landmark building in the historical and cultural landscape protection area of Xuhui District.
Popular place for photo shoots. Grab a coffee and people watch. Lots to walk around and see close by.
Wukang Building, originally a Normandy apartment, is impressive in its unique shape. It has the unique Roman digital elevator in Shanghai. It is said that some celebrities once lived here. At 208 Wukang Road, Romeo balcony quietly watches people coming and going.
