Shanghang Photo

About Shanghang: Shanghang County (上杭县), situated in the middle course of the Ting River, is known as the “hometown of architecture,” the “hometown of poetry and painting” and the “hometown of folk song.” It was an important part of the Central Soviet Area during the Chinese Communist Revolution, and as such is a well-known old revolutionary base area. The site of the Gutian Congress (a major, nationally protected historical and cultural site), as well as the Meihuashan National Natural Reserve (a national forest and wildlife resource nature reserve) can both be found here. Historical sites include a tablet inscription of Shiyu Chronicle by Wang Yangming from the Ming Dynasty, the Qing Dynasty Confucius Temple built in the style of the Song Dynasty and the “Grand Ancestral Hall of the Li Clan” built during the Qing Dynasty.
