About Shenyang

Shenyang, the capital and largest city of Liaoning Province, gives visitors an impression of great change and modernizing resilience. As the former base of the Imperial City Wall, Shenyang bore witness to the rise of the Manchu Qing Dynasty. The last four hundred years have left the people of Shenyang with a royal palace, two imperial tombs and numerous royal architectural remains. The colonnades of the Shenyang Mukden Palace resemble Beijing’s Forbidden City and still give voice to the secret history of the court. Every brick in Marshal Zhang’s Mansion depicts the history of the Warlord Era. The Mukden Incident Museum tells the story of the pain of that humiliation (also known as the Manchurian Invasion). Shengjing, as it was once known, now has more of a modern feeling. It is a major industrial center and transportation hub for Northeast Asia. The bustle and neon of Zhongjie Road, the lofty television towers, and the lively Liu Laogen Grand Stage all bear witness to the ever-changing nature of Shenyang.

Speaking of the Forbidden City, there is actually another one in addition to Beijing in China. This is the Shenyang Imperial Palace in Shenyang, also known as the Shengjing Palace. The history of the Forbidden City in Shenyang is much shorter than that of the Forbidden City in Beijing. It is only 400 years ago. In fact, it was only a short period of time in the early Qing Dynasty. When the Qing Dynasty moved into Beijing, the Shenyang Imperial Palace was only used as the “Public Palace” where Liudu Palace exists. The area of the Forbidden City in Shenyang is much smaller than that of the Forbidden City in Beijing. The craftsmanship of the ancient buildings is still remarkable, and it is well preserved. It was also included in the UNESCO World Heritage sites List in 2004.

Along the horizon in Hongyan, the long river winds, the autumn grass flushes yellow and the sound of a piano playing brings a sad melody onto the grassland. I was unprepared for the swansong that I heard that day. My eyes were drawn to the Hulunbuir Prairie. The environment in Shenyang was very good for birds. When there are fewer tourists, it is easier to take pictures of the birds. Especially in the Hongyan area of the lake, many wild geese can be found in groups, taking off and landing. It is a spectacular sight. It is recommended to shoot in telephoto mode to capture more details.  P.S: This group of photos was taken by the Canon 5D 70-200 handheld.

Qing Zhaoling is in the north of Shenyang in the Beiling Park. It is also known as the Northern Tomb. It is the mausoleum of the second generation of the founding monarch of the Qing Dynasty, Taizong Emperor Taiji. The filial piety of the Emperor Bianziji is in the tomb of Shengjing, which is the largest and most well preserved. The distance from the gate of the park, to the gate of Qing Zhaoling is about 1.5 miles. You can see many children eating candied haws along the way. In the park, the ancient pines are towering, the trees are lush, the lake is rippling, the hall is majestic, and the golden tiles are dazzling, fully demonstrating the majesty, magnificence and elegance of the royal cemetery. In addition to the emperor’s tomb, Zhaoling’s burial grounds are related to the ancestral halls of the Mongol Palace, the Lie Palace, and the Zhaoqing Palace. It is the most symbolic of the Mausoleums of the Qing Dynasty.

The Forbidden City is one of the world's most famous palaces and the first of the world's five major palaces. When I mentioned the Forbidden City, I first thought of the Forbidden City in Beijing, the palace of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. However, when the Qing Dynasty, there were actually two royal palaces. The first one was not in Beijing but in the northeast. Shenyang also has a Forbidden City. It was the Imperial Palace in the early Qing Dynasty. It is the same as the Forbidden City in Beijing. It is one of the two existing palace complexes in China. The palace was built in the ten years of the Golden Age (1625) and has a history of nearly 400 years. The Shenyang Imperial Palace is divided into three parts: East Road, Middle Road and West Road, which were built in different years. The East Road was first built, and the Dazheng Temple and the Ten Wang Pavilion built during the Nurhachi period were the places where the emperor held the "Great Ceremony" and the Eight Banners Minister. Soon after, the construction of the middle road was completed, including Daqingmen, Chongzheng Hall, Fenghuang Building and Qingning Palace. The construction of West Road was relatively late. It was built after the entry into the customs. At that time, the Shenyang Imperial Palace was no longer the palace. The West Road was completed in 1782. It was the place where the Emperor of the Qing Dynasty "Shengdu" Shengjing (Shenyang), reading and watching the opera and storing the "Siku Quanshu". Compared with the Forbidden City in Beijing, the size of the Shenyang Imperial Palace is much smaller, only 60,000 square meters, less than one tenth of the size of the Forbidden City in Beijing (the area of the Forbidden City in Beijing is 720,000 square meters).
