Siena is a city near Florence, famous for its history and also architecture. To visit, usually we can find some one day tour package where Siena is included in it. It is quite big but maybe 1-2 hours are enough to see the main buildings. #happynewyear

Medieval old town
Siena, located in central Italy, is a famous medieval city. The city center of Siena is a beautiful old town area, which is centered around a circular field square. There are various ancient buildings around the square, including the town hall and a 102-meter high clock tower. Next to it is the Siena Cathedral, which has a history of more than 800 years.
Italy | Florence's archenemy | Siena
Florence's neighbor Siena, developed at the same time as Florence, and the two city-states were equally matched. However, Siena has always supported the Holy Roman Empire, while Florence firmly supports the Pope in Rome. Over the centuries from the 13th to the 16th century, the people of the two city-states fought several brutal wars for territory and faith.
When Siena built the most beautiful church in Europe at that time (picture).
From the 5th to the 7th century, Florence followed suit and created the larger and more magnificent Santa Maria Novella, which looks like twin sisters; Florence has the Giotto Bell Tower, while Siena has the taller Mangia Tower (Figure 8); Siena has the gorgeous Campo Square (Figure 3), which is actually a very large square that cannot be captured without a wide-angle lens, while Florence continues to expand its municipal square. Even today, when these two cities meet in a football match, there is always a lot of tension.
In 1348, the Black Death that spread throughout Europe took away two-thirds of the population in Siena. In addition, due to the tusha of the residents by the Roman Emperor, Siena was finally ruled by the Medici family of Florence and incorporated into the Grand Duchy of Tuscany in the second half of the 16th century.
From Florence, it takes just over an hour by bus to reach the old town of Siena, where the attractions are right at the bus stop, very convenient.

Duomo di Siena Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Siena’s Beautiful Gothic Cathedral 😍
Incredibly stunning cathedral in Siena. The exterior of the cathedral is beautiful, elegant, and pretty impressive. ❤️
I didn’t have a lot of time in Siena, and did not manage to go inside of the cathedral, which was a pity.
It’s also located not too far from the main piazza.
💒 Address:
Duomo di Siena
Piazza del Duomo, 8, 51300,
Siena SI, Italy

Sitting on top of a big butte of volcanic tuff, Orvieto retains large signs of its Etrurian past, so much so that the first thing that stood out to me was the light brown tones across its alleys and its roads.
The Duomo cathedral is the main attraction. The church was built in the 14th century and is dedicated to the Ascending of the Virgin Mary. Aesthetically it might remind you of the more famous Cathedral of Siena, obviously because of its roman-gothic style! This one in Orvieto is one of the most significant in Italy.
Don’t miss a visit to another landmark of note, like Torre del Moro for a sunset view of the town and the surrounding hills, Pozzo di San Patrizio and Fortezza Albornoz!
Since we are in Umbria, food plays a unique role. Local cuisine is highly appreciated thanks to its cured meats and other traditional dishes. If you’re planning a road trip across Italy, don’t miss this part of the country for its authenticity.

Siena is not as famous as Florence, but it is located close to Florence. It is one of the old city which in history it used to be Florence’s opponent in terms of development. As we can see, they also have a Duomo (cathedral) which look similar to Florence, but due to some reasons they couldnt finish building it. The city itself is very beautiful and hilly, so be ready to climb up and down #HalloTrip
Siena Cathedral 🇮🇹

Just had an awe-inspiring day in Siena, and the Cathedral blew me away! 🏰⛪️ The entrance fee of €15 felt like a small price for a ticket to architectural heaven.
The Siena Cathedral, or Duomo di Siena, is a Gothic masterpiece that grabs your attention from the get-go. The facade is a riot of colors, and the intricately detailed sculptures and mosaics set the tone for what awaits inside. Walking through the entrance, I felt like I stepped into a divine realm. 🌈🔮
The interior is nothing short of breathtaking. The black-and-white striped columns, the floor mosaics, and the Piccolomini Library with its stunning frescoes by Pinturicchio – each corner is a visual feast. Climbing to the Panorama del Facciatone gives you a bird's-eye view of Siena that's simply unparalleled. 🎨📸
Don't miss the chance to explore the Baptistery and the Crypt – each space tells a different chapter of the cathedral's rich history. The Baptistery's hexagonal font and the Crypt's intimate atmosphere add layers to the overall experience. ⛲️🕰️
After your cathedral immersion, wander through Siena's historic center. The Piazza del Campo is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the heart of the city. The medieval architecture and the buzzing atmosphere make it a perfect spot to people-watch. ☕️🚶♂️
For a sweet treat, try the panforte, a traditional Sienese dessert, in one of the local bakeries. The rich flavors and spices are a delicious homage to the city's culinary heritage. 🍰🇮🇹
Siena Cathedral, you've left me in awe of your beauty and the rich history you hold! #SienaDuomo #ArtisticMarvel #ItalianElegance #TravelBliss

Siena
At the recommendation of my airbnb host, I took a day trip to Siena via train from Florence. Siena is a lesser known Italian city, but strolling around, I found architecture, history, and art from the Roman Empire, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance period. One day was enough to cover major sites like the Piazza del Campo, Palazzo Salimbeni, and Siena Cathedral, but I think two days would have been more ideal to explore more of the museums, history, and art in this lovely city.

Italian Tuscan town 👒 Let's go after reading this.
🌤🚗🚙🛻🛵🌵
Tuscany is located in central Italy, with Florence as its capital city. 🌸As the birthplace of the European #Renaissance🌵, Tuscany is dotted with beautiful countryside and ancient towns on its shallow hilly terrain.🦩When traveling to Italy or exploring Florence in depth, don't miss the Italian romance of the Tuscan towns.
👒Classic towns of Tuscany👒
1️⃣ #San Gimignano🌸
UNESCO World Heritage Site, the town is famous for its high towers.
📍A must-visit spot
🌵Piazza della Cisterna in San Gimignano: The center of the triangular square is an octagonal well from 1287.

🍦Gelateria Dondoli ice cream shop (picture 3) has won consecutive championships in the world #ice cream competition.
2️⃣ #Cortona, Italy 🌸
The protagonist of the novel "Under the Tuscan Sun" in the movie of the same name resides in the town of Cortona, Tuscany. American writer Frances came to the ancient town of Cortona to release the pressure of urban life, bought an old house, and started a life in Tuscany.
3️⃣ #Siena🌸
A town with a history of 2000 years, the birthplace of Tiramisu.
📍Must check-in:
🌵Shell Square Piazza del Campo: climb the tower and overlook the square from a high place, explore the whole city from Shell Square, and surprises are hidden in the narrow alleys.
4️⃣ #Pizza Pisa🌸
📍Must-visit spot:
#Leaning Tower of Pisa: It's not unusual to see all kinds of unique poses for photos.
5️⃣ #Fenchi Vinci🌸
#Leonardo da Vinci's hometown
📍Must check-in:
#Da Vinci Museum: Castello dei Conti Guidi. This 12th-century noble castle has experienced many wars, but now it has peacefully become the Da Vinci Museum, showcasing various interesting invention models of Da Vinci to the public - the original prototype of air conditioning, projector, car, helicopter, parachute, bicycle, etc.
One of the symbols of San Gimignano, black pig. Because it has been a rich place for black pigs for thousands of years, the salami here is very authentic, the shape of black pigs can be seen everywhere, the expression is designed to be thousands of styles, and the embarrassing way to attract guests
shops Wild boar specimens indicate that the meat products here are absolutely natural. Deli can be seen everywhere. Any cooked food can be packaged separately. Sliced ham is no problem at any time. If you want to bring it back to the country, you can buy the whole salami. Vacuum packed, the price is also ranging from 15-30 Euros, depending on the category and weight
The name of San Gimignano, the city of Hundred City, I once read incoherence, this is the main destination of the flower and juvenile tour of Tuscany.
shops on both sides of the main road One is more exquisite than a family, mainly selling exquisite jewelry, handmade, antique shops, as well as handmade leather bags, pasta and other specialty stores. Once you see these, you can't walk, and then women will not finish when they stroll down the street. No, you know, completely framed.
Most of them are familiar with San Gimignano, because they watched the first season of "Flowers and Teenagers", Liu Tao, Zhang Han and others.
San Gimignano, also known as San Gimignano, another small medieval town in the Siena district, once home to the ancient Jane Road in France (the pilgrimage route from Canterbury to Rome) and fertile land. The rich agricultural resources are splendid, and the same is because the Black Death has come to an abrupt end. After the Black Death has been ravaged, the Medici family has taken this small independent town into the jurisdiction of Florence. Since then, it has never prospered before/hh. / San Gimignano is known for its white wine and towers. The struggles within the medieval aristocracy intensified, and various disputes and competitions between the families showed their power, wealth and identity with the height of the tower. Therefore, at that time, the aristocrats were rushing to build their own towers. The more they built, the more they built, the more 72 towers were clearly visible outside the distant city, until San Gimiano was returned. Under the jurisdiction of Florence, the height of the tower is reduced and must not exceed the Palazzo Comunale City Hall.
