M32***23Skipton Castle is located in Skipton, a small town in North Yorkshire, England. It was built by Norman Baron Robert Romier in 1090 and has a history of more than 900 years. Skipton Castle was originally a wooden self-defense castle, but was later rebuilt with stone due to its inability to resist Scottish invasion. In 1310, Edward II awarded the castle to Robert and appointed him Lord Skipton and Guardian of Craven. Robert Clifford ordered the fortifications of the castle to be strengthened, but when he died at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314, there were few complete improvements. Before December 1645, the castle was the only royalist stronghold remaining during the British Civil War in northern England. After three years of siege, the Royalists surrendered to Cromwell in 1645, and Cromwell ordered the demolition of the castle roof. Skipton was still owned by Clifford until 1676, and Mrs. Clifford Anne (1590-1676) was the last owner of the castle. Today, Skipton Castle is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in England. In stark contrast, what you can see elsewhere may only be some ruins or broken walls, so it is definitely worth it. A visit.
Kavitha SubramaniamHome to a thriving Chinese community, Chinatown is a great place to visit and especially accessible from the bus and tram stations in the city centre.
TodemmyThe Yorkshire Dales National Park has many attractions. We visited the Gordale Scar Canyon and waterfall this time. Gordale Scar is a deep limestone valley formed by the rapids of glacial snow melt over thousands of years of scouring faults that cut the rock. Geographers believe that several caves around the gorge have collapsed over the past few centuries, causing the gorge to be 150 meters deep. This canyon seems to be a scar left after a giant axe chopped a cliff. Perhaps the name Scar came from this, and I suspected it was a rift created here when Pangu opened up the world, so I jokingly called it "earth rift".
juki235Manchester University is the third largest university in Britain. It is a comprehensive university combining traditional and modern. The size of the university is very large, and it occupies almost the whole city of 1/3. There are both historic medieval English buildings and modern teaching buildings and facilities. The cultural background is very deep. Manda is very popular with Chinese students, especially the business school, which is one of the most popular schools in China.
Pamela & Colin DickinsonI have been a City supporter most of life. The cottage is just 50 minutes south drive along the motorway to the Etihad Stadium! So this is a great place to stay when you want to take in a LIVE football match...no matter who you support in the North. The area is a true CITYUNITED!!
