What people are saying:

Paldalmun Gate is a famous landmark, so be sure to take photos. It takes 20 minutes to walk to Suwon Station from here. You can also take a bus. However, I chose to walk slowly and found that there is a path under development, many coffee shops, and finally Many gourmet restaurants, you can eat dinner here, basically cheaper than Seoul, and the people here are kinder than Seoul

    One of the Suwon's landmark.

CY ( 20.12.26 ) This gate was one of the Suwon's landmark, and located in the center of big road. So we could not approach and view in detail. If on Haenggung trip, it was worth to pass by slowly. T...

Just a gate surrounded by modern buildings

Paldalmun isn't connected to the fortress, but is rather an isolated gate surrounded by modern buildings. It might make for a nice photo, but I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to visit it. Ra...

Nice contrast between old and modern

My favourite of the gates of Suwon, because of the contrast between the old gate and the busy road and the market in the streets next to it.

Southern gate of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress

Locating in downtown, this has been isolated by roads after the long period of time. It's good to take a look and learn architecture. But, access is not allowed. - It feels very similar to Namdaemun...

Additional Information

Badamen is the southern gate of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress constructed in the late 1794s in DPRK, and it has a meaning of stretching in all directions. Among the four gates of Huacheng, the two north and south doors are more wonderful than the east and west.An arched gate of stone was built to facilitate the emperor's entrance and exit. Above the gate, there were five towers on the front, two on the side and an attic in the middle. There is a wall enclosing the tower, which is half-moon shaped, with guards on the left and right sides for the purpose of defending the city. Similar to the towers of the capital city, Badamen is a Liao-style roof complex with a statue on the roof. It is a classical Korean architectural style.
