Mudu Shantang Street

Mudu Shantang Street is the main street of Mudu Ancient Town. It starts from Zhongshi Street in the east and connects to Lingyan Mountain in the west. The main attractions and delicacies of the ancient town are concentrated here. It is said that in the Spring and Autumn Period, Wu Wangfuchai built a doll's palace on the top of Lingyan Mountain in order to please Xishi. Labor and supplies gathered here, so many people settled in the mountain pond and gradually developed a town. Although Mudu Shantang Street is similar in layout to Shantang Street in Suzhou City, they are all ancient houses, old streets, and small bridges and flowing water, but the former was formed much earlier than the latter. The visitor center (ticket office) is at the west end of Shantang Street. Yanjia Garden, Hongyin Mountain House, Ancient Pine Garden and Bangyan Mansion are the main attractions along the street from west to east. The Nanmu Hall of the Yan Family Garden is very grand; the Hongyin Mountain Room can see a large stage; the carvings in the hall of the ancient pine garden are very beautiful, and there is also a Ming Dynasty Arhats in the garden; the Bangyan Mansion is decorated with brick and wood carvings , It is famous for its exquisite stone carvings. Accompanied by the Xiangxi on Shantang Street in Mudu and the Xu River on the south side, they meet under the ancient bridge in the east. Name, Xujiang is an artificial canal excavated by Wu Zixu. You can take a cruise on the river and enjoy the scenery on both sides of the river. The cruise terminal is not far from the tourist center at the west end of Shantang Street.
