What people are saying:

IM PEI understand the art of the it and how to blend it in because he was born in this city, and his old house (which is a also a UNESCO listed calssical grden) is literally a 5 minutes walk from this museum. He really poured a lot of energy into this project, his last ever project, for his hometown.

    Shapes and light

Very impressive design of building with clear routes to see the many exhibition areas. Rather busy in golden week but quite pleasant. The external area at night is quite the backdrop.

    Great Architecture

The museum exhibits aren't great and the museum can get very busy on weekends. It's worth going for the building alone though, it's a very interesting design.

Marvellous Building Design and a must go place

The Suzhou Museum is a blend between modern design and the past history of Suzhou. The building itself is Instagram/facebook photo worthy. The Museum is not that big but is worth your 1-2 hours.

Small, well-curated collection in a classic IM Pei building

It is hard to know whether to commend more the modern building or the well-displayed collection of antiquities from the area around Suzhou. Although many visitors seem more interested in snapping phon...

Additional Information

The Suzhou Museum is located on the west side of the Humble Administrator's Garden in Pingjiang District, an ancient city in Suzhou. It includes the new building that opened in 2006 and the ancient building of Palace of King Zhong of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom (the old building). The entire museum is like a small garden. In the new museum, you can see artifacts such as pottery, jade, paintings and calligraphy from ancient times to modern times. In Palace of King Zhong, you can also see the beauty and elegance of the “Su-style painting”.
