This is located in a difficult residential area right next to Yanaka Cemetery. Born in Ihara City, Okayama Prefecture, Hirakushi Tanaka came to Tokyo in 1897 to learn sculpture, and lived with Yanaka and Ueno Sakuragi for more than 70 years on the edge of Koun Takamura, Tenshin Okakura, and Daikan Yokoyama. It is a house. It was a nostalgic building with a quaint taste. It was closed and I could only see a part of the outline.

Until November 17th, 10:00 ～ 17:00 "Sculpture and House" exhibition was held at [Former Hirakushi Tanaka Residence] and the mansion is open.

November 7, 2019 ～ 17th 10:00 ～ 17:00 The exhibition of "Sculpture and House" by the Department of Sculpture, Tokyo University of the Arts, is being held, and the mansion is open. What about you? The mansion was part of ｱﾄﾘｴ in 1919, and the residence was extended in 1922, and lived here until 1970, and then moved to Kodaira. ｱﾄﾘｴ The part is a blowout up to the second floor, and there is a skylight diagonally northward.

It is a house with an atelier.

This mansion is a house built by the sculptor Tanaka Hirakushi during the Taisho era, and the atelier is attached to the house. It seems that it is still used as an atelier. It is not open to the public. From the exterior, it is wonderful to see the appearance of Japanese houses in the Taisho Showa period.

Two young female artists reused it as an art space using an old folk house where a wooden carver named Hirakushi Tanaka lived. Contemporary art with the theme of memory of the sound of the house is being developed. It's a pretty old house, but it was a space that reminded me of a nostalgic feeling.
