Showa Shinzan and Usu volcano are close to each other. Showa Shinzan is a bulging small mountain, which is an active volcano that swelled due to the eruption of Usu volcano. The foot of the mountain is surrounded by large green lawns, only the tip of the mountain is bare red rock and soil. You can also see Showa Shinzan from the cable car of the Zhu volcano, but Showa Shinzan is not open for climbing. You can only look down from the base of the mountain to the tip of the mountain.
During the Showa period, Mount Usu on the shore of Lake Toya continued to undergo volcanic activity, causing the bottom to bulge and forming a new mountain, hence the name Showa Shinzan. This mountain is one of the two active volcanoes of Lake Toya. The white smoke emitted from the mountain is the source of the clouds and mist of Lake Toya. Showa Shinzan is located on the south bank of Lake Toya, overlooking the Pacific Ocean in the south and Lake Toya in the north. Nearby attractions include the mountain Bear Ranch, Yuzu Mountain Cable Car, Geopark, Toyegou Park, Lakeside Park, Volcano Museum, etc...
Get closer to nature, get up Showa-shinzan and enjoy the greenery.
