Lake Wanaka. It is a lake formed by the melting of glaciers more than 10,000 years ago and is the fourth largest lake in New Zealand. Here is inaccessible since ancient times, and indigenous Maori people only occasionally pass by. In 1853, the first European came to Lake Wanaka, but it was not until 1863 that there was a fixed inhabitant here, where they were grazing sheep. The tourism industry here began in 1867.
