About Zaozhuang

Zaozhuang is a vibrant and unique city, an “excellent Chinese tourism city.” As early as the Tang and Song Dynasties, villages were formed in the area. It was named “Zaozhuang” after the many jujube trees here. Zaozhuang is rich in tourism resources and offers many scenic spots. There is the Xiong'er Mountain National Geological Park, the Tai'erzhuang War Memorial, the ancient city of Taierzhuang in which the Grand Canal flows through, along with the Weishan Lake Wetland Park. These sites attract visitors in their own special ways.

In the southeast of Zaozhuang City, Taierzhuang Ancient City is located in the central belt of the last section of the Grand Canal. It is a famous water town north of the Yangtze and an ancient canal city. The ancient city was demolished in the 1938 Battle of Taierzhuang. The old city seen today is a reconstruction, with many scenic spots reconstructed on their original sites. However, the city still retains many remnants of its history as a battlefield. Taierzhuang incorporates eight different architectural styles so that visitors can experience both the style of southern Shandong and the folk customs of north Jiangsu. You can't go wrong by taking a stroll among the quiet lanes, catching boat rides on the Grand Canal, or watching an exciting folk performance.

The Battle of Taierzhuang Memorial Hall is located in the southwestern suburb of Taierzhuang City on the picturesque Grand Canal in Zaozhuang City in Shandong Province. There are three rooms in the exhibition hall, displaying over a thousand pieces of Chinese and Japanese materials and cultural relics of the Taierzhuang War. The entire memorial hall is a magnificent and solemn site, consisting of the exhibition hall, the painting and calligraphy hall, the film and television hall and the panoramic painting gallery. The name of the memorial hall was inscribed by the famous calligrapher Qi Gong. The Battle of Taierzhuang Monument stands in front of the main building. The name of the monument was inscribed by the former Minister of National Defense, General Zhang Aiping. The memorial was written by Cheng Siyuan, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and inscribed by the famous calligrapher, Quan Xijun.
