Ryukyu is the general name of a series of islands in southwestern Japan, with a northeast to southwest direction on the Ryukyu Ridge, containing 24 manned islands, 36 uninhabited islands and several unnamed islands. As a special geographical unit, this arc-shaped island group is backed by southeast China, north and south connecting Taiwan and Kyushu, Japan, and the front is the vast western Pacific Ocean, so from the map alone, Ryukyu is undoubtedly the southwest gateway of Japan, Japan is called Okinawa.
