Hot hot hotspring under maple trees with great view of Rausu
I first went to Kumanoyu in February 1989 and again in September of 2017. It is a wonderful hot spring that is taken care of by citizens of Rausu. Admission is free. There is a separate women’s are...
Kuma no yu is one of the famous secret hot springs in the area. Many locals, no matter residents nearby or tourists, drive to enjoy the hot spring by the river. You can feel the joy of nature around ...
We past this onsen by car on our trip through Shiretoko. We went to our hotel to get some towels and went back. There is a section for men and a section for women. You can wash yourself outside the ba...
From Rausu, take the Shiretoko Crossing Road toward Shiretoko Pass for about 10 minutes by car, and you will find a parking lot on your left after crossing the Rausu Visitor Center on your right. If you cross the bridge and go down the sidewalk, you will see the building of the women's bath dressing room, and if you exceed it, you will find a men's bath with no rust. There is a hut in the dressing room on the side, where you can change clothes. The bath is boiling water. I barely counted 100. There is no washroom, but some people were washing their bodies and heads with soap beside the bathtub.
Have a bath with the locals!
this small open-air onsen feels highly authentic. The water is super hot, just like old timers like it in Japan! Bring your own towel :)
