What travelers say:

The Free Library of Jutefen was built in 1564. The building is part of St. Wolberg's Church. The building and its furniture are almost completely preserved in its original state, and most of the original collection remains in its original setting. The Library is a unique 16th century public library located in St. Wolberg Church in Jutefen. The church itself dates back to the 11th century. Since its inception, some books have been linked to the reading room. In the Middle Ages, the chapters of St. Wolberg Church consisted of 12 canonicals. They were responsible not only for church services but also for advising the Duke of Guelders and the town council on legal matters, a profession that by the end of the 15th century had led to an unusually large collection of books. So when the South Church was built in about 1490, it was decided to build a "liberije" library on the cemetery. After a long preparation, the real construction of "Librije" began in 1561. It took three years to complete. The shape of the building was adapted to the adjacent church.
