Sado Island Galaxy Art Festival | Sado

Aug 11–Nov 10, 2024 (UTC+9)ENDED
Sado
Celebration
Sado Island once had a gold mine that was influential in Japan and the international community. It was also the place of exile for the retired Emperor Juntoku, who was defeated in the Jōkyū War, and Zeami, who was suppressed by Ashikaga Yoshinori. From the Edo period (1603-1868) to the Meiji period (1868-1912), the Kitamae-sen ships connecting the Kinki region, the Hokuriku region, and Hokkaido frequently passed through here. Sado, which was an important transportation hub in each era, developed unique theatrical forms such as Noh and Ondeko, and still retains a unique lifestyle and Japanese culture. In this festival, artists from Japan and abroad will become the media to lead everyone to rediscover the rich nature, unique history, folklore, and charming local residents of Sado Island. During the period, not only will a variety of art works be displayed in various places on Sado Island, centered on the Ryotsu area, but there will also be live art performances, guided tours, and experience activities. This will be a great opportunity for everyone to appreciate the rich culture of Sado Island, including nature, food, and architecture, and understand the charm of Sado Island through art. In addition to visiting the exhibition sites, you can also take the audio guide and map and travel around Sado Island freely. You may be able to examine and understand your inner world and feel again that humans are part of nature and the universe.
