SEX CELLS res-Erection | Dragonfly Hollywood

May 3, 2025 (UTC-7)
City of Los Angeles
Concerts
The legendary party Sex Cells is back for one night only. Special Guests TBA. Born in 2017 , Sex Cells is not just a party—it’s a cultural phenomenon. Unlike anything before or since, it exploded onto the underground scene as a haven for the beautifully bizarre, a chaotic collision of music, fashion, and raw, unapologetic self-expression. A fusion of punk, goth, and queer club culture, Sex Cells has played host to an electrifying mix of performers, from electroclash icons to industrial legends, drag superstars, and boundary-pushing artists. With its signature mix of sleaze, glamour, and debauchery, Sex Cells transforms every venue into a neon-drenched, leather-clad, latex-wrapped fever dream. Past guests have included cult favorites like Marc Almond, Brooke Candy, Azealia Banks, TR/ST, Kim Petras, Amanda Lepore, Cold Cave, and many more—proving that this is more than just a party; it’s a statement. The demand for Sex Cells never stopped. Year after year, fans and performers alike have begged for its return, craving the energy, the spectacle, and the untamed spirit that can’t be found anywhere else. There was nothing like it before, and there will be nothing like it after—this is the party that rewrote the rules . With a fearless and subversive vision, Sex Cells is a celebration of sexual liberation, underground subcultures, and the freaks who refuse to fit in. Whether you're looking to dance until dawn, witness jaw-dropping performances, or lose yourself in a crowd of misfits and muses, Sex Cells is where the underground comes alive. Come dressed to shock, stay to be seduced. Information Source: Lethal Amounts | eventbrite

Hailee Catalano, trained chef, former restaurant cook, and recipe developer in conversation for By Heart: Recipes to Hold Near and Dear . Moderated by Courtney Storer, Culinary Producer for The Bear. Book signing and meet and greet to follow. Learn to make elevated, professional-quality meals in your own kitchen with over 100 creative, seasonal recipes from Hailee Catalano Growing up cooking the Sunday gravy, meatballs, and pasta alongside her Italian American grandmother, Hailee Catalano developed a huge passion for food. This passion led her to the Culinary Institute of America, and then to cooking in restaurants. But somewhere along the way, Hailee started to miss the home cooking that made her fall in love with food in the first place. Restaurants made it seem like beautifully made food was too difficult to recreate at home. In By Heart , she presents over 100 restaurant-quality recipes designed to be made in your home kitchen. You'll find seasonal pastas ( Pasta alla Norcina with Roasted Squash ), veggie-forward recipes designed to make the most of your CSA box ( Caponata with Dried Cherries and Green Olives ), simple meat dishes ( Roast Chicken with Red Wine Vinegar and Honey ) breads ( Hearty Seeded Rye Bread ), butters ( Calabrian Chile Honey Butter ), condiments ( Chicago-Style Fennel Giardiniera ), perfect beach sandwiches ( Brie and Butter Sandwich with Shallot-y Frisée ), simple sweets ( Malted Milk Butter Cookies ), and so much more. Inspired by her professional training and love of seasonal cooking, Hailee includes details on how to keep a calm kitchen, navigate a farmers market, make your own broths and the perfect sourdough loaf, and plan out a Friday Night Dinner menu. Carefully crafted from the heart, this is a book you'll return to again and again. Information Source: Now Serving | eventbrite

Apr 30, 2025 (UTC-7)
City of Los Angeles

Winter and the rainy season bring the return of non-native, and invasive weeds that crowd out the native plants that are extra beneficial to our local ecosystem. But here's the thing though, many of them are also edible! By eating them we can help the natural ecosystem--from bugs to birds to bears--survive a little easier. In this workshop and easy hike we will learn about both the native and invasive plants growing throughout Elysian Park, practice plant identification skills to know what is edible and what is not, gather various invasive edible plants along a 2 mile walk, and at the end put them all together to enjoy a wild, foraged, hyper-locally-sourced salad. ** CANCELLATION POLICY: you may cancel up to 48 hours before the event starts. Simply request a refund through eventbrite and I will approve. Within 48 hours I'll take it on a case by case basis. I don't mean to be a stickler, but this is how I pay my bills and late cancellations take a space away from others who would like to attend. Breakfree Intervention skills training | Los Angeles 2025 | Breathe Life Healing Center Weho Clinic

May 1, 2025 (UTC-7)
City of Los Angeles
Family Events
Breakfree Intervention skills training equips students to understand intervention history and gain valuable insight through classroom education and case studies, how invitational intervention works in the field. The learning lab experience educates attendees through method review, role-play, and other action practices. Breakfree Intervention is the trauma-informed intervention standard today and is designed to meet multiple skill levels while advancing each participant’s knowledge base. Conducted by noted author, teacher and interventionist Brad Lamm, Certified Intervention Professional (CIP), BreakFree Intervention skills training equips participants to understand the history and methods of various addiction intervention models as compared to Brad Lamm’s proprietary invitation to change process, which pairs a loving family-infused intervention with a long-term family recovery curriculum. This model is set alongside Kathleen Murphy’s action-method approach to trauma-informed treatment. Through education, case studies, and role-play-rich training, participants learn how to intervene using this cutting-edge approach to initiating Family Recovery. Special thanks to this year's presenting sponsor, Carrara Treatment Wellness & Spa, and to our event collaborator, Lightning Step. --------------------------------------------- By registering for this event, you acknowledge and agree that the event will be recorded and may be used for future online distribution. Philippe Garrel's THE INNER SCAR (1972) starring Nico – Rare Screening! | Philosophical Research Society

May 2, 2025 (UTC-7)
City of Los Angeles
Arts
Film
" Personally, I find this film a masterpiece. A total masterpiece. I can't explain it… Suddenly, it's mankind, the whole earth that speaks – the earth in the ancient sense of mother. But it is not even the earth that speaks, it is the humus… It's incredible: everything is there. " - Henri Langlois, Écrits de cinéma The Philosophical Research Society's 7th House Screenings is proud to present a rare screening of Philippe Garrel's mythic, long difficult to see surrealist masterpiece THE INNER SCAR ( La cicatrice intérieure, 1972), its first LA screening in nearly a decade. Starring legendary doom folk icon Nico (Garrel’s decade-long partner and muse) and featuring songs from her classic album Desertshore (its cover photo is a still from the film), Garrel casts a dreamlike spell in what is a wholly singular cinematic trip – one that, in its sheer visual mysticism, sits beside the likes of The Holy Mountain and The Color of Pomegranates . Pierre Clementi and Garrel himself co-star alongside the striking one-time Velvet Underground chanteuse and her young son Ari – their mysterious figures traversing (in often seemingly impossible tracking shots) the barren, otherworldly landscapes filmed in Death Valley, the Sinai Desert, and Iceland. Enigmatic, alluring, and existential, Garrell described the film as a record of what was going through his mind at the time and advised “one mustn’t ask yourself questions while watching…it should be watched for pleasure, as one can take pleasure from walking in the desert." An ethereal and hypnotic marvel of acid drip slow cinema that demands to be seen on the big screen! Dir. Philippe Garrel, 1972, 60mins, France, French & German w/ English Subtitles, Unrated (ADULT AUDIENCES ONLY), Digital. Special thanks to Philippe Garrel, Pip Chodorov and Diana Vidrascu of RE:VOIR, and Bernardo Rondeau. City of Los Angeles
Cultural Experiences
Forced Journeys: Stories of Home, Displacement, and Belonging This event is free but registration is required. What does it mean to belong to a place, a nation, a family, one’s own past? To what do we owe our homelands and what happens when we are displaced from them? Novelist Charmaine Craig, whose Burmese mother was both a beauty queen and a revolutionary, illuminates both national and personal trauma in her prize-winning Miss Burma ; Hector Tobar set his novel Tattooed Soldier in Los Angeles before the riots and in his parents’ native Guatemala during the years of military dictatorship. Photojournalist and founder of Refugee Eye, Lara Aburamadan recounts the ugliness of war and the endless cycle of Israeli bombardments in her native Gaza, in an effort to fight the dehumanization of Palestinians, bring about social change, and promote peace. In conversation with Ipek S. Burnett, a Turkish-born author and psychologist; these writers discuss in what ways exile gives them freedom to write, create, or advocate— and in what ways the draw of “home" limits that expression. We are pleased to present this event with Thomas Mann House and the Goethe-Institut in the spirit of Thomas Mann’s 150th birthday celebration, who wrote many of his most well-known works from his exile residence in Los Angeles . The 2025 PEN World Voices Festival, the 20th anniversary of the festival, will be a celebration of world literature and free expression. Rupert Russell's THE LAST SACRIFICE! co-presented by Cinemancers | Philosophical Research Society

Arts
Film
7th House Screenings is excited to welcome back Cinemancers, as they proudly co-present director Rupert Russell ’s much anticipated folk horror true crime documentary THE LAST SACRIFICE (2024) for the first LA screening since its Beyond Fest premiere! Masterfully crafted, Russell’s The Last Sacrifice delves into the real-life 1945 witchcraft killing of Charles Walton— the terrifying event that inspired THE WICKER MAN and birthed the folk horror genre . This unsettling true-crime interrogation probes into the eerie, enigmatic cultural undercurrents that shaped 1970's folk horror genre, leaving an indelible mark on cinema and public psyche. An absolute must-see for anyone interested in folk horror, legends, true crime, history, film theory, and sociology, Russell’s incisive and creatively vibrant documentary explores how societal horrors not only reflect their era but can also inspire art that challenges us to question the forces behind them. It uncovers an unflinching portrayal of Britain's profound identity crisis, both during the tumultuous early 1970s and the resurgence of folk horror today, ominously coinciding with yet another national descent into madness. Its conclusion: The Wicker Man is more fact than fiction! Prepare yourself...for THE LAST SACRIFICE! Followed by a discussion with director Rupert Russell (pre-recorded via satellite!) Dir. Rupert Russell, 2024, 94 mins, UK, English, Unrated (ADULT AUDIENCES ONLY), Digital. Special thanks to the filmmaker and to Roberta O'Farrell of Intermission Film.
