FAQ What are the workshop levels? The workshops are open to all levels of dancers, but some exposure to these styles is required to get the most out of the training. The instructors will provide techniques/variations tailored to each student's current level to ensure everyone is appropriately challenged. What to bring for footwear? Latin Dance shoes are recommended, but not required. Any clean pair of shoes that is comfortable and not grippy on the floor will work. For newer dancers, we recommend wearing comfortable flats with a non-sticky sole that you can dance in for multiple hours (Fuego sneakers, Taygra sneakers, leather soled ballet flats, suede soled jazz shoes, and Toms are all great options). You may also choose to dance in socks if you do not yet have appropriate footwear. What to wear? Workout outfits are typically what people wear to the daytime workshops, but other outfits may be appropriate as long as they are comfortable enough to dance in (not too tight, not too short, not too warm, allows you to move your arms, hips, torso, and rest of the body easily, not a tripping hazard, etc.). Can we book private lessons? Our instructors will have extremely limited availability for privates. Payment is required in advance to secure your time slot. Email yeg.dancer.events@gmail.com to book. Can you tell me more about the venue? Sugar Swing Ballroom is a beautiful special events venue with sprung hardwood floors and bar service in the Whyte Avenue neighbourhood. While in the space, attendees are subject to the Sugar Swing Code of Conduct ensuring a safe space to learn and practice the art of partner dancing. What are the venue's policies? No outdoor shoes inside the studio. Bring a clean pair of indoor shoes (non-marking) to ensure we do not damage the studio's floor. What should I bring for food? A refillable water bottle and whatever you may like to consume during the breaks. Let us know in advance if you have any allergies. Do I need to bring a partner? You do not need to register with a partner as we will rotate partners throughout. What if I have more questions? If you have any questions, please feel free to message us. And remember, we're building a friendly and inclusive community so be sure to do your part! 🛁 Smell nice

An Evening with Louise Penny | Knox United Church
Oct 31, 2025 (UTC-6)
Edmonton
Somewhere out there, in the darkness, a black wolf is feeding. Seek sanctuary at Knox United Church this Halloween night as Louise Penny, the doyen of Canadian mystery, returns to Winnipeg to launch the 20th Armand Gamache novel, The Black Wolf(Minotaur). Hosted by Penny's longtime friend, the incomparable Shelagh Rogers, this promises to be an evening of mystery, insight, and laughter. Louise Penny is the multi-award winning author of the Chief Inspector Gamache novels, set in her home province of Québec, Canada. A former Winnipeg resident during her days with the CBC, her books, including State of Terrorwritten with Hillary Rodham Clinton, have sold more than 18 million copies worldwide, topped international bestseller lists, including the New York Times, the Winnipeg Free Press, The Globe & Mail, and been translated into 32 languages. The recipient of both the Order of Canada and l'Ordre national du Québec, her country's highest civilian honours, her Three Pines Foundation reaches out to those in crisis and offers financial and emotional support, with a special focus on literacy as well as dementia care. Her husband, Michael, died of dementia in 2016. She lives with her Golden Retrievers Muggins and Charlie in a village south of Montréal. Her brand new mystery, The Black Wolf picks up just several weeks after the events of Penny's #1 New York Times bestselling novel The Grey Wolf. It finds Chief Inspector Armand Gamache Gamache of the Sûreté du Québec playing a lethal game of cat and mouse with an invisible foe who is gathering forces and preparing to strike... Host Shelagh Rogers Bio: Upon announcing Shelagh Rogers was stepping down from the CBC, a publicist added an extra zero to the 43 years Shelagh worked there, so it became “Shelagh Rogers has been at the CBC for 430 years”. Through those centuries, she hosted current affairs shows, arts programs, and worked with legendary colleagues such as her mentor and friend, Peter Gzowski. In 2011, Shelagh was inducted into the Order of Canada. Also that year, she was named an honorary witness for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. She is the inaugural recipient of the Margaret Trudeau Award for Mental Health Advocacy, and she was the 2022 Symons Medallist. She is a member of the Métis Nation of Greater Victoria. In 2008, Shelagh co-founded a national radio program devoted to writing in Canada called The Next Chapter. Louise Penny was a frequent guest and Shelagh lunges for any opportunity to speak with her. Over the years, Louise has become one of Shelagh’s closest friends. Shelagh is honoured to be hosting the Winnipeg launch of The Black Wolf and thrilled to speak with her brilliant and beautiful chosen sister.
