Safeguarding 2 - Club Children's Officer (C.C.O) ONLINE COURSE This course is intended for those who are taking on the role of Club Childrens Officer. If you are a Coach or volunteer you need to compleate safeguarding 1. A person appointed to the Club Children's Officer position in a club must have completed safeguarding 1 (Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness workshop) and should complete the NEW Club Children's Officer 3 hour workshop. This course will help the Club Children's Officer to carry out the function of their role in the club and support the implementation of best practice in the club. Participants will also receive a Club Children's Officer Action Planning document as part of the training. The Sport Ireland Code has been adopted and implemented by governing bodies of sports, clubs, local sports partnerships and community/voluntary groups on an ongoing basis since 2000. It has been encouraging to see the common sense approach to the adoption of the code at grass roots level, which has resulted in protection for young people and leaders. If young people are to stay involved in sport throughout their adult life, they need to be equipped with the fundamentals to remain involved with sport and physical activity. Equally we need to ensure that their early experiences are positive and enjoyable, irrespective of their ability, gender, social class, race, etc. It is encouraging to see adults, both volunteers and professionals, contribute to these positive experiences by acting as role models in all dealings with young people. In particular the work of Children's Officers at club and national level is instrumental in implementing the Code. We need to build on this valuable work to ensure that all young people see sport and physical activity as an important and valuable aspect of their lives that they will sustain throughout their adulthood. VENUE INFORMATION This is an online course and the zoom link along with course material will be emailed to participants a few days before the course is to take place. These details can not be shared with others and names not on the registration list will not be admitted to the zoom meeting. 'Dear Dirty Dumpling': Dublin in Finnegans Wake | James Joyce Centre
Mar 13, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Dublin
Join us at the James Joyce Centre for an insightful talk about Finnegans Wake by John Dredge on Thursday, 13 March 2025 at 6.30pm as part of our Spring Lecture Series 2025. This lecture will explore how the city of Dublin and its 'environs' is knitted into the fabric of James Joyce’s Finnegans Wake. As well as the many references to Dublin and Dublin places, many of the Wake’s set pieces take place in identified and/or identifiable Dublin locales e.g. the Pranquean episode in Howth Castle and the Museyroom episode in Phoenix Park. The lecture will have a strong visual dimension but will also explore how everyday Dublin speech infuses the rich linguistic fusion that makes the Wake unique in world literature. John Dredge is the Honorary Secretary of the James Joyce Institute of Ireland. A native of Dublin, John spent many years as a secondary school teacher. He subsequently worked in curriculum development and teacher professional development. Since 2007, he has been a part-time lecturer in the School of Education of University College Dublin. Since September 2024, he hosts on behalf of the Institute an online reading of Ulysses which attracts a range of local and international participants. His immersion in the Wake continues apace. The James Joyce Institute of Ireland was founded in Dublin in 1975 by a group of dedicated Joyceans whose mission is to foster knowledge of Joyce’s writings ‘among the ordinary people of Dublin’ in circles outside the universities. This was done through the hosting of public lectures on Joyce and his work (a role later inherited by the James Joyce Centre) and the convening of a succession of reading groups to encourage people to engage with the Joycean canon. The Institute also commemorates notable dates such as Joyce’s birthday and Bloomsday every year, as well as organising trips to places associated with Joyce and his work. Doors open at 6pm. The event is free but booking is essential. The James Joyce Centre is supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.

St. Patrick’s Day in Dublin | Dublin
Mar 17, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Dublin
St. Patrick's Day is a cultural and religious celebration aimed at commemorating Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. It is widely celebrated in Ireland and Irish communities around the world. This is a day to celebrate Irish heritage and culture, known for its celebrations, parades, and green - themed activities. Join more than 500,000 spectators who gather every March and witness over 4,000 parade participants, including marching bands from all over the world. Amid thunderous music and grand performances, there are lavishly - dressed performers, colorful dance troupes, and spectacular and luxurious float parades winding through Dublin's historic streets. The parade is centered around a sense of enthusiastic celebration, proudly displaying the creativity, imagination, laughter, and joy that our wonderful people are known for.
The theme of this year's festival and parade is "Eachtraí", which means "adventure" in Irish. It represents the unique essence of Ireland and the Irish people. It is what makes us different and what unites us. Usually, it is also the reason why people from all over the world hold a special place in their hearts for the Irish people, places, and culture. This theme represents the famous and legendary adventurous spirit deep within all of us. As a defining symbol of Irishness, it is known and loved worldwide. As a nation, it is this innate ability to turn fear into courage, face any challenge head - on and transform it into an adventure, and blaze new trails as we move forward.
This year, a special beauty pageant was held for St. Patrick's Day to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Pavee Point. This beauty pageant was held in cooperation with Pavee Point and the Roma Traveller Centre. This vibrant event will highlight the common traditions and cultures of the Irish Traveller and Roma communities and showcase their unique heritage through the stories and skills of their young members. At the heart of the beauty pageant is the iconic wagon wheel, a powerful symbol of both cultures. In a profound reflection on tradition, the tradition of making wagon wheels has disappeared in Ireland. To recognize this skill, Pavee Point has partnered with a highly - skilled British Roma artisan to provide advice on design and construction, bringing this important tradition back to life. It is expected that this year's parade route will have half a million spectators lining up. The parade will include 7 large - scale beauty pageants from Ireland, North America, and Austria, 6 exhibition matches, 12 marching bands, and more than 4,000 participants, making it the largest national St. Patrick's Day parade ever.

Over two gallery-based sessions, participants will discuss and experiment with critical writing in response to the current gallery exhibition Better a bare foot than none. This solo exhibition by artist Katarzyna Perlak has been curated by Marysia Więckiewicz-Carroll. Please note there are a very limited number of spaces for this workshop and so we ask that participants are fully committed to attending both sessions. Young Art Writers is an ongoing gallery-based workshop series at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios. It explores different aspects of writing in relation to visual art through workshops led by writers, artists and curators with a writing practice. The workshops adopt a shared learning and explorative approach as opposed to taught or critique-based sessions. No experience is necessary and all levels of writing ability are welcome. Marysia Więckiewicz-Carroll is guest curator at Temple Bar Gallery + Studios for Katarzyna Perlak's exhibition Better a bare foot than none. She has organised and curated numerous exhibitions and projects in Ireland and abroad, independently and in partnership with various institutions and local authorities, including the Hugh Lane Gallery and Irish Museum of Modern Art. She was a co-editor of Paper Visual Art, and the founding director of Berlin Opticians Gallery. This exhibition is supported by an Arts Council Project Award. Event location information: This event will take place in the gallery where the exhibition is installed. Rita Lynn presents Ostara Tour w/ support from Peter O’ Sullivan | The Cobblestone
Mar 21, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Dublin
Join Rita and her band for an evening of musical invocations + ritual to honour the vernal equinox and arrival of spring. Band - Josh Sampson on drum kit/bodhrán/synth, Jessie Hanley on cello & Peter O' Sullivan on keys/lap steel guitar. Support on the evening by Peter O' Sullivan Cork based singer-songwriter Rita Lynn weaves a tapestry of folk, jazz, and soul, drawing inspiration from the raw beauty of the Irish landscape, her rural upbringing, and the complexities of human experience. Shaped by a love for improvisation from her jazz musician father and an appreciation for lyrical expression from her word-loving mother, Rita's music explores themes of intimacy, vulnerability, and self-discovery. Soulful vocals accompanied by sparse piano melodies, droning strings and soft percussion create textured soundscapes, deepened by improvisational flourishes and a nod to the Irish tradition of storytelling. Peter O'Sullivan writes songs like he is trying to make himself the corner of a room and take you there with him Born to a tourist town on the south-east coast of Ireland, standing six foot tall in the right shoes, Peter spent his adolescence in a multigenerational household soaking up the history of his town and family through enriched stories of the local monuments. The perspective of his songs, while often catalysed by the media he consumes, gets its depth from his hometown, his friends, the experiences he's lived and witnessed.
