A SIPSY-DOOZY Evening with Nic Hamilton | Bold Fork Books
May 29, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Washington D.C.
ABOUT THE BOOK
From a social media powerhouse, a witty and unpretentious cocktail collection featuring both classic and original recipes, vibrant photography, and whimsical illustrations.
After a pandemic-ridden two years in Los Angeles, Nicholas “Nic” Hamilton—an Australian-born actor, musician, and somewhat-recently-turned content creator—moved to New York and turned to the internet to showcase his passion for mixology, posting witty-yet-educational cocktail-crafting videos to TikTok, garnering an audience of over 1 million followers in a matter of weeks. Now, the superstar is channeling that energy into Sipsy-Doozy, his premiere cocktail cookbook, where he shares his own take on favorite cocktail classics alongside 80 original recipes. These drinks are as quirky as they are delicious, including his Affogato Martini, Bitters Sweet Symphony, Drive My Sidecar, and more. Following his successful merch drops, fans of Nic’s will come to this book for a piece of him as much as for the fabulous recipes, that is, if they’re respectful in this house.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Nicholas Hamilton
is an actor, musician, and online mixologist best known for his roles in Captain Fantastic and the It movie franchise. When he’s not starring on the big screen, he’s captivating phone screens, posting cocktail-crafting videos to more than 2.4 million followers.

Hybrid Event: Girl on Girl, Sophie Gilbert | East City Bookshop
May 1, 2025 (UTC-5)ENDED
Washington D.C.
East City Bookshop welcomes Sophie Gilbert to discuss her book, Girl on Girl: How Pop Culture Turned a Generation of Women Against Themselves. Note on Format:This hybrid event will have both an in-person component with limited seating as well as a virtual broadcast via Zoom Webinar. Both in-person and virtual attendees will be able to pose questions to the author during audience Q&A. ABOUT GIRL ON GIRL FromAtlanticcritic and Pulitzer Prize finalist Sophie Gilbert, a blazing critique of early aughts pop culture
What happened to feminism in the twenty-first century? This question feels increasingly urgent after a period of cultural and legislative backlash, when widespread uncertainty about the movement’s power, focus, and currency threatens decades of progress.
Sophie Gilbert identifies an inflection point in the late 1990s and early 2000s, when the energy of third-wave and “riot grrrl” feminism collapsed into a regressive period of hyper-objectification, sexualization, and infantilization. Gilbert mines the darker side of nostalgia, training her keen analytic eye on the most revealing cultural objects of the era, across music, film, television, fashion, tabloid journalism, and more. And what she recounts is harrowing, from the leering aesthetic of American Apparel ads and explicit music videos to a burgeoning internet culture vicious toward women in the spotlight and damaging for those who weren’t. Gilbert tracks many of the period’s dominant themes back to the explosion of internet porn, tracing its widespread influence as it began to pervade our collective consciousness.
Gilbert paints a devastating picture of an era when a distinctly American confluence of excess, materialism, and power worship collided with the culture’s reactionary, puritanical, and chauvinistic currents. Amid a collective reconsideration of the way women are treated in public, Girl on Girl is a blistering indictment of the matrix of misogyny that undergirded the cultural production of the early twenty-first century, and how it continues to shape our world today. Sophie Gilbert is a staff writer at The Atlantic, where she writes about television, books, and popular culture. She won the 2024 National Magazine Award for Reviews and Criticism and was a finalist for the 2022 Pulitzer Prize in Criticism. She lives in London.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Rick Mart
í
nez
is a celebrated Mexican American cookbook author, New York Times bestseller, recipe developer, and food personality. His debut book, MI COCINA: Recipes and Rapture from My Kitchen in Mexico is a James Beard Award–winner, IACP Cookbook of the Year, IACP Best International Cookbook, and New York Times bestseller and serves as a transporting tribute to his family’s homeland of Mexico and a personal exploration of Rick’s self-identity as a third-generation Mexican American.
ABOUT THE COOKBOOK
The James Beard Award–winning author of the New York Times bestseller Mi Cocina is back with
SALSA DADDY,
a guide to the brightest dish in any Mexican meal, snack-filled afternoon, or sun-drenched beach day: salsa. From refreshing classics to rich sauces, this collection of over seventy salsas and twenty-four easy meals is a fun-loving introduction to the joy of Mexican cooking.
Chips, salsa, happiness. We know that essential truth. But after over 500 years of salsa history, there’s so much more to discover about this staple dish, one that cooks today can customize and riff on freely. Salsa can be an irresistible dip, yes, or a flavorful condiment, or it can be the basis for iconic Mexican meals—not to mention a savior for grilled cheese, burgers, rotisserie chicken, or platters of roasted vegetables.
Rick takes us deep into the world of traditional and modern salsas, where a playful pico de gallo with tomatoes, avocados, and chipotles is chopped up in a few minutes or where you might blend roasted peanuts with caramelized onions and toasted chiles for a nutty-savory spicy sauce. You’ll find smashed salsas, like La Tatemada Cremosa (charred tomato, chipotle in adobo, and crema), chopped salsas, such as Xnipec (tomato, habanero, and sour orange), as well as cooked salsas, like Pipián Verde (pepitas, peanuts, and tomatillo) and specials like Salsa Macha (peanuts, guiajillo, and chile de árbol) and Aioli Rojo (morita, guajillo, garlic, and lime). Turn these incredibly delicious salsas into easy meals like Chilaquiles, Enchiladas Gratinadas, Puffy Tacos, or Pozole Verde con Pollo. With over seventy salsa recipes and twenty-four easy meals that offer endless variation, Salsa Daddy shows you how salsa can catapult joy into your cooking and become the heart of every table. Like Rick, you’ll learn that salsa isn’t a condiment—it’s a lifestyle.

ABOUT THE BOOK
Best-selling author Rick Riordan presents the thrilling conclusion to Roseanne A. Brown's middle grade trilogy about a pre-teen girl who, as half-Slayer and half-vampire, is caught between two worlds.
Serwa Boateng has gone head-to-head with vampires, witches, and even a death god. But now, with the fate of the magical world at stake, she'll have to face her toughest foe yet: her own grandmother.
Finally free after decades of being trapped inside the Midnight Drum, the dreaded obayifo Nana Bekoe seeks the destruction of the Abomofuo. Even worse, she has Serwa's father under her thrall. Now, the hunters have become the hunted, as the Slayers' defenses are powerless in the face of an enemy who has access to all their secrets.
Serwa's only chance of saving her father might just lie with the Keepers, an organization whose powers exist outside the normal rules of magic. But the Keepers are even more secretive than the Abomofuo, and finding them will require Serwa to trek across the United States. At least she has her friends by her side for the journey . . . friends who currently hate her guts. The survival of everything and everyone Serwa has ever loved hinges on her completing this final hunt without losing herself in the process.
Serwa Boateng has been a Slayer. She's been a vampire. But now, it's time for her to become something else entirely: a hero.
