Japanese Painting Workshop - Paint Cherry Blossom | Cambridge Street Collective
Apr 27, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Sheffield
We’re Floating Art, a small arts business based in the North. We’ve been teaching people how to paint here for over 7 years now. At our workshops you’ll be taught by a practicing artist Ula Fung and helped along by her partner Ryan. We specialise in workshops that combine both fun & learning and believe you can never forget the learning!
Our Japanese Painting Workshop is our flagship workshop. A workshop for both art lovers and Japan Lovers!
We’ll teach you some basics of the Japanese Painting style known as Nihonga (日本画) and teach you how to paint using traditional materials that includes bamboo brushes, sumi ink, Gansai Tambi 顔彩耽美 (Traditional Japanese colours), gold leaves on rice paper. The seasons are a big part of Japanese culture and for that reason we keep the themes and topics of our workshops seasonal. For this workshop we’ll be covering the topic of Cherry Blossom and you’ll learn all the painting techniques you need to paint Cherry Blossom. We’ll bring a large selection of topical references from a wide range of Japanese Artists, both classic and contemporary.
Our Workshops are not about copying what’s in front of you but designing and making something of your own. You’ll learn all you need to know about how to do that in the session. Most of our students haven’t painted in a long time. This painting class is suitable for beginners as well as those with a little more artistic experience, so don't worry if it's your first time. Your teacher will be on hand to provide guidance and answer any questions. We just ask that you treat Ula with respect by listening to her demonstration as well as her advice. At the end of your art class, you'll get the chance to stand back and admire your beautiful Japanese painting. You'll head home with your piece and a new skill that's perfect to practice whenever you're looking to clear your head. Make a day of it! This workshop is located at the Cambridge Street Collective Food hall in Sheffield. Food & Drink will be available to purchase from their wide selection of vendors and you can choose to have these either before, during or after the workshop. Why not make a day of it? A perfect Sunday.

The Roaring Girl | Crookes Social Club
Apr 29, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Sheffield
The Roaring Girl
By Thomas Dekker and Thomas Middleton
Abridged by Lucy Bytheway
📍 Crookes Social Club, Mulehouse Rd, Sheffield S10 1TD
🗓️ Tuesday 29th April & Thursday 1st May 2025 Sebastian and Mary are stuck. They're lovers, impeded by Sebastian's father Alexander, who forbids their engagement. A plan is hatched to deceive Alexander of his son's devotion to local legend and social reject Moll Cutpurse, in the hopes of proving Mary a preferable alternative. Unbeknownst to them, Alexander hatches his own plan to incriminate Moll and rid his son of her. The whole while, all Moll wants is to be left alone!
Their conundrum is flanked by the quandaries of the busybodying neighborhood: a chemist and his wife's entanglement with a younger man. An alleged affair of a tailor. A respected father's despair over his gambling son - it's nothing short of bedlam! Featuring live original music from an electric trio, this farcical comedy follows the lives of a mischief-making, pot-stirring ccommunity.
The play's heroine is based on real-life rogue Moll Cutpurse, a notorious figure amongst England's 17th century underworld, who fought, stole, drank, and battled traditional expectations of femininity. This adaptation sees Moll dispute double standards against a backdrop of 1970s northern England, fuelled by a punk, non-conformist characterisation.
This spring at Crookes Social Club you're invited to stomp, shout, and whirl, to laugh and revel at The Roaring Girl.
