Greenland Rolling & Kayaking Skills Weekend with How We Roll and Sea Kayaking Cornwall Join us for a weekend of Greenland-style rolling and kayaking techniques, paddling and fun. Please note that the Eventbrite ticket does not include camping. Please book the campsite directly via Tregedna Farm. There are also lots of B&Bs in the Falmouth area. Friday Evening (Land based rolling Session): We’ll kick off the weekend with a land-based exercise session where you'll learn the basic principles of Greenland rolling. This will set the foundation for the rest of the weekend's on-water training. Please let us know if you can't make it to the Friday evening session. Rolling sessions: Saturday will feature two on-water rolling sessions – one in the morning and another in the afternoon. We'll cover both beginner and advanced rolling techniques, with plenty of hands-on coaching to help you progress. A final rolling session on Sunday morning will refine your skills . Trip and paddling skills: Each day, you will also have the opportunity to work on your paddling techniques, including: Efficient forward paddlingA variety of Greenland paddle strokes to improve controlThis event is perfect for anyone wanting to learn their first Greenland rolls or for more experienced kayakers looking to refine their technique and to work of the harder rolls. All levels are welcome but you need to be confortable paddling a seakayak, if you are feeling unstable whilst paddling is will be very hard to learn to roll the kayak. Our experienced instructors will provide individualized feedback to help you develop your skills at your own pace. Chris Reed from Reed Chillcheater will also be joining the event to help coach and offer a range of Greenland goods to demo & buy. The lineup, featuring Dan Horne and Austin McCutchen alongside keyboardist Adam MacDougall woke the Grateful Dead cosmos with a unique laid-back harmony driven sound. The band literally went from playing the Shakedown Street vendor area prior to Dead and Company shows to touring the United States. The moment that sent the band’s popularity soaring is the “Busted at the Bowl” video, a YouTube video that features Shred members starting an impromptu set in the parking lot of the Hollywood Bowl before a Dead and Company show in 2017. They don’t get too far before drawing so much attention that the police shut them down. Instantly creating Shred-cred, this was a bit of good fortune that doesn’t get past McCutchen. “We’ve been dealt some pretty good cards,” he states. “It’s been cool to roll with it and push forward and continually make stuff happen. Things have gone our way. Even that video happened magically. It was put together at the last minute, and boom!” The thing is, Grateful Shred manage to channel that elusive Dead vibe: wide-open guitar tones, effortless three-part vocal harmonies, choogling beats, and yes, plenty of tripped out, Shredded solos. The look, the sound, the atmosphere. It’s uncanny. Far from being a historical re-enactment, Grateful Shred’s laissez faire vibe infuses the band with a gentle spirit, warmth, and (dare we say it) authenticity. From their killer merch game to their eminently watchable YouTube channel, they’re clearly having a rad time and spreading the love. The exhibition is themed "Painting Taihu Lake" and features more than 40 fine paintings. The two exhibition areas vividly present the evolution of Taihu Lake art. Woodland adventures for home educating families. Join us for a fun-filled time at Shaw Wood! These sessions take place on a Monday every month. Directions will be included in your booking confirmation, please look out for this! The sessions finish at 12:30pm, but you are free to leave earlier if you need to. Please note, there is no toilet in this woodland - wild wee behind a tree is the natural facilities on offer! There will be different things happening at each session, dependant upon the weather, season, and the interests of the group. Please dress for the weather, with several layers and waterproofs. In autumn and winter it can get very chilly in the woods and you will have a far better experience if you are warm and dry. Sturdy footwear is essential for the uneven and often muddy woodland paths. In summer it can still be cool under the dappled shade of the trees and we suggest long sleeves and trousers whatever the weather to help avoid stings and bites. Please bring your own packed lunch. A reminder that adults are responsible for the safety of their children throughout these sessions. We will be there to meet you at the woodland clearing at 10am.
