Book yourself in for this small and relaxing botanical art experience!All Materials Supplied - No Experience NecessaryAuckland Wintergardens Botanical Artist, Jennifer Duval-Smith will guide you through this fun and explorative practice which is suitable for all levels of confidence. Leave feeling more connected to your creative self and the natural world. In this workshop you will use easy nature journaling principles to observe and capture a plant subject, allowing plenty of scope and botanical interest for all levels of confidence. You will learn tried and tested methods with simple prompts and accessible strategies to draw a botanical subject and capture natural detail. This class will meet at the beautifully renovated Temperate House at the Auckland Wintergardens and then move to work at a secure behind-the-scenes location at the Domain Nurseryto observe specimens which have been curated for us by our expert Domain Curator team. Your workshop fee includes: • A three hour botanical art workshop • Morning tea and coffee • All materials including paper, pencils, clipboard, watercolour pencils and brushes. You are welcome to bring your own materials • A donation to Friends of the Domain for their generous support Important to know: Numbers for each workshop are strictly limited to 10 for maximum interaction. We hold the shapes for longer periods of time and allow the tissues to stretch and lengthen, which also opens up any blockages held in the energy channels, allowing the Qi or Prana to flow more effectively. We use the extended holds as a meditation; to focus on breath, to watch the mind and to feel every little sensation. In turn we become more embodied; more connected to what our bodies are communicating, more connected to our feelings and get out of living so much in the mind, allowing repetitive thoughts to rule. Our weekend course is an immersion into our permaculture smallholding. You will cover the foundations of permaculture in a very practical way, and see them at work on our farm. We will explore: - foundations; natural systems and patterns, ethics and design tools - raised beds and veg growing - animals in a permaculture system What to expect The course is informative and interactive. You will leave having designed a permaculture space, putting into practice everything you have learned. Additionally, you will have the grounding to be able to progress onto the full Permaculture Design Course. Led by head coach Kiri Wills, the Northern Stars have made their mark on the competition, consistently finishing in the top four every season since their inception. The team boasts a talented roster including Silver Ferns representatives Grace Kara, Maia Wilson, and Kayla Cullen. The Northern Stars call the Auckland Netball Centre their home turf, a state-of-the-art stadium equipped to seat over 2,000 passionate netball fans. The team has gained a dedicated following and has been recognized for their outstanding performance, most notably earning the coveted title of ANZ Premiership runners-up in 2019. Ema is inspired by the mystery and magic found in Japanese and Maori Folklore, and this influence can be seen throughout her captivating and detailed images. Kintsugi It's called kintsugi (金継ぎ), or kintsukuroi (金繕い), literally golden (“kin”) and repair (“tsugi”). This traditional Japanese art uses a precious metal – liquid gold, liquid silver or lacquer dusted with powdered gold – to bring together the pieces of a broken pottery item and at the same time enhance the breaks. You will take away your wonderful finished work, plus your knew skills which will enable you to further your own Kintsugi in your own time. This class is not just for budding or accomplished artists.
