SSF (Season 2) - Tour A [Shadows Over Outram] | Spottiswoode Park Road

Shadows Over Outram The past never dies—it just hides in plain sight. Outram bears many names. A medical hub. A colonial relic. A hill of secrets. But after dark, another name rises—Singapore’s most haunted district. This is a journey into the unseen. Through flickering corridors, winding alleyways, and pockets of vanishing history, we reveal a district haunted not just by spirits, but by memory and neglect. We begin at Spooner Road, where echoing footsteps and strange apparitions have long plagued the residents. Once railway quarters for Malayan Railways, now a near-abandoned ghost estate, it tells stories of loneliness, despair, and things that never left. Then we make our way to Pearl’s Hill Terrace—once a bustling police barracks, now a decaying colonial holdout with long corridors that creak with more than just time. Here, multiple accounts speak of doors slamming on their own, disembodied voices, and cold spots with no explanation. As we uncover the forgotten lore of this quarter—of hidden cells, secret tunnels, and lingering wartime trauma—you’ll see a different side of Outram. One where the ghosts are both literal and metaphorical. Information Source: SOMETHING STRANGE FESTIVAL (SSF) | eventbrite

From France with Franz | Esplanade Recital Studio

Jun 30, 2025 (UTC+8)
Singapore
Concerts
Classical
Join the Oceanus Trio for an evening of exquisite chamber music. From France with Franz brings together the works of Gabriel Fauré and Franz Schubert , spanning the dawn and dusk of the Romantic period. Anchoring the program are Schubert’s Piano Trio in B-flat Major and Fauré’s Piano Trio in D Minor , two contrasting works that beautifully complement each other. Schubert’s harmonic clarity and structural finesse provide a striking contrast to Fauré’s expressive lyricism and uniquely colorful harmonies. Fauré (1845-1924), was born while Chopin was still composing, and he lived to see the emergence of jazz and atonal music. Though less widely celebrated than Schubert, his music—quirky, elegant, and irresistibly charming—deserves more recognition. Featuring other exquisite miniatures such as his Romance for piano and Violin and Papillon , this program hopes to highlight his distinctive voice. Join us for a captivating evening where classical elegance meets the poetic fluidity of late Romanticism and early 20th-century harmonies. Whether you’re drawn to Schubert’s radiant craftsmanship or Fauré’s dreamy, intimate soundscapes, From France with Franz offers a journey through time and styles. Reserve your tickets now for this unforgettable musical experience! Program: Franz Schubert: Piano Trio in B-flat Major, D. 898 Gabriel Fauré: Piano Trio in D minor, Op. 120 Gabriel Fauré: Valse Caprice No. 2 in D-flat, Op. 38 Gabriel Fauré: Romance for Violin and Piano, Op. 28 Gabriel Fauré: Papillon, Op. 77 Program may be subject to change. BETWEEN DECLARATIONS AND DREAMS: ART OF SOUTHEAST ASIA SINCE THE 19TH CENTURY | National Gallery Singapore

ENDED
Singapore
Exhibitions
Housed in the former Supreme Court building, the UOB Southeast Asia Gallery features over 300 artworks that trace shared artistic impulses across Southeast Asia. Beginning in the mid-19th century, the exhibition navigates Southeast Asia’s art history as an ongoing encounter with the new, as artists across the region negotiate the meaning of art and seek to reinvent vernacular expressions and aesthetics. Presented largely chronologically and interspersed with key turning points in artistic sensibilities, the exhibition also identifies how art is inextricably linked to the region’s turbulent social and political history. The exhibition owes its title to Chairil Anwar, one of Indonesia’s most cherished poets. In his 1948 poem Krawang-Bekasi, Chairil Anwar lamented the massacre of villagers by Dutch colonial troops in West Java, giving vent to the desire for national independence at the time. This line can also be said of the experience of many artists in the region, caught between manifesto and dream, personal and political. The curatorial narrative explores four themed locations in roughly chronological order, each of which critically examines common artistic impulses in the region during each period: Authority and Anxiety, Imagining the Nation and the Self, Performing the Nation, and Redefining Art.

Diplomacy and Desire: Basoeki Abdullah in Singapore is an exhibition of artworks by Indonesian painter, Basoeki Abdullah (1915-1993) who is known for his paintings of stalwart statesmen and attractive women. The highlights of the exhibition are two paintings that the artist gifted to Singapore. Diplomacy and Desire focuses on the artist’s relationship to Singapore and his time living in Singapore when it achieved self-government in 1959. The exhibition considers the relationship between Basoeki as a high-society painter and his agency as a regional cultural producer who was keenly aware of the geopolitical value of his artworks.
