Bailiffgate Hotel

Location: The hotel is praised for its prime location, offering stunning views of Alnwick Castle and easy access to the town center and surrounding areas.

My wife and I spent three days in Alnwick and used the Bailiffgate Hotel for drinks and a meal (two separate visits). An imposing front (and the room rates) imply excellent service from visitor-facing staff. The majority of the restaurant waiters and one of the bar team seemed to be only recently in any sort of employment and rather out of their depth. Example; On arriving at the entrance to the dining room (Me) "Hello, we've got a table booked for 7:30". (Young person) "What name? (I replied). (Young person) "Follow me". And that was it. Nothing followed other than "ready to order?" etc. The food was 'all right' but there are certainly many restaurants nearby with far better food (one Italian restaurant was worthy of Michelin status!) and at lower cost. This place needs time for it to settle in and gain experience on so many fronts. Footnote: High commendation to one of two young ladies in attendance in the front lounge bar. Superb service from her, the other very poor but she was over-worked.

First time at Bailifgate Hotel - what a beautiful conversion/transformation into a high end quality hotel retaining lots of the character and adding great modern accommodation and outdoor spaces to relax. Service throughout was friendly and professional and quality and choice of food and drink was great. Excellent dinner well presented with local ingredients and very tasty - options to suit all palates. Restaurant overlooking the castle with the setting sun a very memorable occasion. When booking check carefully as online system defaults to single occupancy rather than couple so price is inaccurate.
