This is a good 3* hotel in a quiet village within walking distance to the beach, the Fort and local amenities and spa facilities. Rooms in the main building do not have air conditioning. Rooms with garden access are cooler than those on the first floor which get very hot during the summer season. Access to the first-floor rooms is via a spiral metal external staircase when reception is closed. The small free-standing fridges in the rooms are appreciated but noisy so you end up unplugging at night. Some of the bathrooms have very poor lighting and the sizeable showers have a slippery surface so despite the plastic shower mats, you must be very careful not to slip. 5 cabin-style rooms have been recently built. Access is across the lawn. These cabins have their private exterior seating areas. The hotel proposes private paying car parking facilities which you can only reserve upon arrival (first come first served basis). The car park has a pebble surface, which is difficult to walk on let alone wheel your luggage. The hotel is clean, but I requested 2 additional pillows, one was stained without a pillowcase and the other had a stained pillowcase. There was hardly an apology when I made the comment at reception and was provided with 2 clean pillowcases. The bed in the room named La Goelette was extremely uncomfortable, consisting of two single bed bases and two single mattresses hooked together with a very thin top mattress/mattress cover resulting in a painfully hard centre sloping downwards to each side. I’ve stayed in this hotel on more than 10 occasions over the years but feel that despite all efforts to make improvements and offer more facilities, there seems to be no “ownership” by the receptionists who do their job, but don’t show interest in going the extra mile to make your stay more enjoyable. Breakfast is good, but is not served before 8a.m., so if you have an early start, you have to forego breakfast or use the kettle in your room Conclusion – a good hotel which merits is 3*, fine for one or two nights, carefully select your room according to your needs. Many of the room descriptions on the hotel site sound much better than they actual are.

Simple comfortable hotel. Decent breakfast. Friendly efficient staff. Nice short drive from the tunnel. Only downside is the charge for parking when there is simply no choice. That’s new since we last stayed here. They should simply include it in the room rate.

Room was fine. Unfortunately I left a phone charger and adapter in the room and have been told they will not send it back to me even if I paid for it. How it’s not possible to just put it in the post I’ll never know. Not happy with the customer service.

‘Junior suite ‘ comprises bedroom & bathroom - no sitting room, though chairs provided on balcony. Noisy plumbing kept us awake at night when adjacent guests flushed toilets or took showers. Limited hours of reception, and when no staff present access to our room was via outdoor spiral staircase fire escape - difficult for guests with mobility issues. Conflicting messages from different staff: one receptionist told us breakfast was included in overnight charge, yet we were told by the ‘manager’ that we needed to pay extra. Additional €100 taken from our account on departure. Proved difficult to get this refunded until we go Bpoking.com involved. Shan’t be coming back

Extremely unhelpful staff on arrival at hotel. Discovered that you must reserve & pay in advance if you want one of the VERY LIMITED & TIGHT parking bays! You are not permitted to park on the street outside - not helpful when you’re disabled! Such a gross disappointment!!

Set just off the old coastal road connecting Calais to Boulogne lies the tiny fisherman's village of Ambleteuse with its ancient harbour bordering on the sea. Set back from the road in a quiet location on the outskirts of the centre you will easily spot the Hotel des Argousiers, unmistakable as it is from all its neighbours, by its charming beachcomber- style exterior. The nautical theme continues throughout the hotel from its reception to the comfortable bedrooms all of which open onto either the large communal garden or a first floor balcony. The rooms are spacious and come equipped with comfortable beds, TV, small refrigerator and tea making facilities. The bathroom to our garden level room was newly tiled in an ultra contemporary style and featured a large walk-in shower. We appreciated the thoughtful extra touches of a hair dryer and electric heater to take the chill out of an early September morning shower. There was even a small microwave made available to guests on a table in the hallway to the rooms should it be needed. We received a warm welcome from Madame Virginie who explained all the features of the hotel and gave us a key in case of a late return from the nearby restaurant she had so kindly helped us book before our arrival. We could see that she works very hard to ensure the comfort of all her guests including the copious buffet breakfast that she is constantly replenishing throughout the morning’s service. Living almost directly opposite her on the other side of the English Channel we were there this time only on a brief overnight shopping trip but now having found her delightful hotel I am sure we will remain frequent visitors. See you soon Virginie.

Very warm, welcoming welcome. The hotel is simple, clean and comfortable. Secure and paid parking is at our disposal. The extraordinary place close to many hikes. I was not able to have breakfast because I had to leave the hotel very early.

The hotel is good but be careful of the cancellation conditions! Accommodation is due if cancellation occurs less than 7 days before arrival. And, even with a good reason and for a stay during the Easter weekend where the room will be re-rented, WE DON'T DISCUSS! It is normal for professionals to protect themselves against abusive cancellations, but this should not exempt them from adopting a commercial attitude.
