We stayed at several hotels on our 7 day road trip. Super 8 Ames was among one of our favorites! The room was nice and big, plenty of amenities. We enjoyed the local resources. The front desk attendants gave excellent recommendations for places to go sight seeing. I've put this location in my phone as a favorite place to stay.

We could not check in to Country Inn and Suites down the road even though we had reservations . Front desk clerk at the TownePlace said they can squeeze both our families in and check us in early. The clerk took care of us. Got us into our rooms and made us feel right at home. Got the kids a snack. Gave us a run down of the hotel, breakfast, pool....etc. She follow up with phone call and made sure all was okay. The rooms all had kitchenettes, were clean and the stay all friendly the whole stay. Now the only place we will ever stay in Ames.

When we arrived, there was no one at the front desk for quite awhile. Long enough that we shouted out for someone. My room was missing the closet door and had a light bulb out above the sink. The air conditioner quit working in the middle of the night. The next day we went down to breakfast at 7:00 a.m. because we had a conference to attend by 8:00 a.m. The man taking our order told us the cook was detained. I explained that we had a deadline and if we couldn't get breakfast before that time, we would go elsewhere. He assured us the cook would be there soon and gave us a cold stale pastry. We had a cup of coffee and waited. After we couldn't wait any longer for breakfast we left. I reported the light bulb out and the A/C not working to the front desk before leaving. When we arrived back to the room, the A/C appeared to be working, but the light bulb was still out. In the middle of the night the A/C quit working again. Some of the staff were doing their jobs. Others were not. I'm a City Clerk and we have a conference in Ames every July. We will not be back.

Not bad, mainly because the location is better. The facilities are relatively old and the overall conditions are average. It is on the edge of Duff Ave, not far from the supermarket, and there is a panda restaurant nearby.
