AQUILA RITHYMNA BEACH ★★★★★

📍 Xenodoxeio Aquila Rithymna Beach, Adelianos Kampos

"We have just returned from our first family holiday abroad as a 4 to Aquila Rithymna Beach Hotel, and had a great time. The staff were friendly & polite, and the rooms spotlessly cleaned every day. We were Bed & Breakfast, and found the morning buffet to be excellent. So many choices - pastries, bread, cold meats & cheeses, fresh fruit and vegetables, olive oils, cooked options, crepes, juices and even prosseco! Fresh pots of coffee made for your table were also very well received by 2 tired parents. Our kids especially loved the Greek yoghurt, crepes and traditional Greek pastries :) The en site mini market is really well stocked with everything from sun creams, postcards and water to confectionery, hats, sanitary products, children's toys and swimming gear. Pricier than the local strip shops, but obviously very handy when you can't be bothered going further afield. The pools were lovely - we found the smaller two to be the most pleasant. More chance of nabbing a sunbed turning up after 10am, and still plenty space for the little ones to splash about and hone their swim skills. We could never get the app on the sun loungers to work for ordering drinks which was quite frustrating though! I used the spa one day for a facial and Cretan massage, which I cannot recommend enough. Very relaxing space with lovely ambiance, I wish I'd had time to return before we left! Tasty Corner was an amazing find, children of all boards can eat for free there from 11am every day (snacks, lunch and dinner provided). This was the best find of our holiday - both boys loved the food and we discovered some new things they love eating which we have gone on to buy since getting home! Especial shout out to the really lovely staff there who were super friendly, and even made some baby food especially for our youngest on one occasion :) it was a lovely atmosphere, very clean, and a highlight of our day wandering up. They also had kids sized toilets which were very useful! Special shout out to the kids entertainers as well - our eldest was especially taken with some of the evening shows. Most visitors seemed to be Czech, French or Italian but there was plenty going on in English so he didn't feel left out. Only downside was the extend to which the beach was pebbly. I would say swim shoes are a necessity rather than a nice-to-have, as we found barefoot walking very painful. This also put paid to our sandcastle dreams, so I would bare this in mind if you are looking for a soft sand beach. All in all, a lovely introduction to one of our favourite holiday destinations for our kids and somewhere I would recommend to any family looking for an easy and restful break in the Greek sunshine."

"We flew home from this hotel just last night, after spending 10 nights here for 6.5K. 2 adults and 4 children we had no choice but to book 2 rooms, luckily we managed to book 1 room with a private pool & the other without. 1 adult with 2 children in both rooms. We arrived at the hotel around 12am ish. The hotel had left leftover food from dinner for us to eat, we where extremely grateful as we was very hungry and unaware of food times for surrounding restaurants and the last thing we wanted to do was leave the hotel after traveling with 4 children aged 7-15. We had booked superior rooms, 1 with a private pool. There was nothing superior about the room if I'm honest. They where both extremely small, the room with the pool was smaller, the shower door was right next to the hotel door, and it opened outwards, tiny bathroom that remained soaked if someone had a shower. There was only the bathroom mirror in the room without the pool, no where to hang towels to dry (both rooms on ground floor). Every single morning we where waken with the cleaners walking and shouting up and down the hallways, using their cleaning trolleys so if your looking forward to a lay in, ground floor isn't a great place to be! The food was ok, breakfast consisted of multiple choices of fruits, yoghurts, cereals, pastry's and some cooked food. We found the Lunch options and dinner options very repetitive, so much so we were sick of eating chips and pizza. We had to eat out a few times to try and look forward to some food. Poolside food was chips (yummy ones) pizza, hotdogs, burgers, gyros, chicken nuggets and fish fingers. your typical all inclusive poolside snacks and it done the job! Hot food was kept warm and cold food was kept cold, all kept fresh away from flys and bugs ect. The cocktails and mocktails were really good, and was always served with a smile from the lovely staff. Soft drinks on tap (Pepsi, 7up, lemon, orange and water ect). (Strawberry coconut cocktail was my personal favourite). I simply can not write this review without mentioning Rico the entertainer, he is genuinely a pure happy soul. Having had conversations with him about his life and watching him bring everyone together for games during the day and entertainment in the evening, he really did make the day/evenings so enjoyable!! My children will certainly miss him and aqua gym!! I must mention fiyena (I hope I have spelt that correct) the lifeguard. She is outstanding, she is firm but very fair. She will ensure every child is safe but she will also make sure every single person around the pool is having fun and enjoying themselves, she really is a star who pitches in with cleaning plates and rubbish as well as helping children with their goggles and inflateables. What I will say is the first day we got there the floor was so slippy it had adults and children falling over, a major accident waiting to happen. I believe she made the hotel provide some safety mats to help, especially down slippe"

Begeti Bay Hotel ★★★★
"Just back from 2 weeks at the Begeti Bay Hotel. The hotel was lovely and clean, our standard room was bright and modern with aircon, fridge, tv ( No uk channels), kettle, small safe and a private small balcony. All staff were very friendly and cheerful and looked happy to be working there. The food was good and varied - buffet style with plenty of choice at all meals, and always free tables either inside or outside. Breakfast 07:30 to 10:30, lunch 12:30 to 14:30, dinner 19:00 to 21:00. and snacks available from the bar 15:30 to 18:00. The choice of drinks was plentiful with cocktails, beer wine, local spirits etc. and were available as part of the all inclusive package between 10:30 and 22:00. After 22:00 the bar remained open until midnight but drinks had to be paid for. There were no organised 'activities' apart from a very popular Greek Night on Thursdays, and there was never a problem getting sunbeds round the pool, with pool towels available for 10 Euros deposit each (in cash). The tourist tax was payable on check-in, also in cash, so good to have sufficient Euros to cover this. As is clear from the hotel description, it is in a quiet location but on the bus route between Heraklion and Rethymnon and sandy beaches are just a 5 minute stroll away. We hired a car and that was very useful to make the occasional trip out as well as getting from/to the airport. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxed and comfortable holiday."

Kapsaliana Village Hotel ★★★★
"The hotel’s concept with various rooms in a beautifully restored old village is beautiful. The grounds and various buildings are quaint and very well done. Very high end. Service is excellent. The setting is quiet and serene. However during our 6-night stay there were at least one family every day with small children who are just being children, but their constant tantrums disrupt the peace and quiet for all the other guests, who are without exception adult couples, undoubtedly here for the same reason we were - to relax in the magical peaceful setting. Forget the pool if the kiddies are there - constant noise, crying, and commotion. Why is this hotel not an adults only hotel????? We would gladly pay a bit more for that. My other comment is about the dinners here. They are trying too hard to be a foodie destination but IMHO they missed the mark. The food is just ok and it is very expensive - about twice the price as just about any other of the many restaurants we visited over several weeks on Crete. Not worth it. They should stick with some more traditional food, or at least offer options, and lower their prices. We ended up going out somewhere else every night for dinner for great food at half the price. However I must add that the included breakfast spread was over the top great. Just fix the dinner menu."

Aegean View Hotel - Rethymno ★★★
"We spent a very nice stay in this hotel. It is a small, cozy facility located near the sea, ideal for those looking for a quiet rest. The owner is very kind and helpful, always trying to take care of the comfort of the guests. The large plus is a delicious, typically Greek food that allows you to know the local tastes. The rooms have been renovated and look very good. The guests also have a swimming pool and a careful area around the hotel. The entire facility has a friendly, family atmosphere, which makes you feel free and really rest."

AQUILA RITHYMNA BEACH ★★★★★
"We have just returned from a fantastic 10-night stay at Aquila Rithymna Beach, and from start to finish it exceeded our expectations. On arrival, we were delighted to be upgraded to a side sea view room, although, to be honest, any view at this beautiful resort would have been lovely. The hotel is spacious, immaculately clean and incredibly well maintained. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly, welcoming and genuinely seemed to enjoy making guests feel at home. Our room may have been a little dated in terms of décor, but that honestly didn't detract from our holiday for a second. It was comfortable, spotlessly clean and, given how little time we actually spent in it, it certainly wasn't an issue. The facilities are second to none. Whether you want to relax by the pool, spend time on the beach, enjoy the water park or take part in activities, there is something for everyone. A special mention has to go to the Pink Wave animation team, who were absolutely fantastic throughout our stay. In particular, Maksymilian deserves a huge thank you for his kindness towards our son and for helping solve a little "ball problem" that was very important to him! It's these small moments that make a lasting impression. However, I would like to add, they all work so hard! The Kri Kri Kids Club was exceptional. Our son was genuinely upset to leave because the team made him feel so welcome and included from day one. He even took part in the overnight sleepover, which became one of the highlights of his holiday. It was wonderful to see him enjoying his own adventures and building confidence, while giving Mum and Dad the chance to enjoy a little relaxation too. We loved that the club was so flexible, allowing children to drop in and out rather than committing to full days. The children's restaurant was another brilliant touch, and our son loved deciding each day whether to eat there, at the main buffet, or sometimes both! The food throughout the resort was excellent, with an incredible amount of choice. The main buffet never became repetitive, and it was lovely to have the opportunity to enjoy some of the à la carte restaurants during our stay. The pool restaurant lunches were another highlight. Again, all the staff were attentive and work hard to turn around tables so there is no wait at busy times. The drinks offering was equally impressive. The cocktails were excellent, and the wine selection was unlike anything we've experienced at an all-inclusive resort. A special thank you to Vangelis in the main lobby bar, who took the time to explain the cocktails, happily adapted drinks to suit our tastes, and was always so kind and engaging with our son. He is a real credit to the hotel. The beach is beautiful and having it directly on the hotel grounds is a huge bonus. The pools were excellent, and we also treated ourselves to the spa, which was reasonably priced and provided another wonderful experience with friendly, professional staff. The water pa"
