We went with friends for the 1st Sunday lunch under new management. We were very disappointed as we were invited by friends to join them we didn’t want to complain. But the plates came out swamping in gravy and the beef & pork were so tough we asked for steak knives. Cauliflower cheese was an extra at £4.50 overall disappointing the waitress was also very aloof. It’s the first time I’ve been in the George for years and will probably be years until I go back.

I cannot fault this absolute gem of a hotel and the managers and their team. I’m a local, went to school here and have lived here as have my family for 35 years! I live an hours drive away now but visit frequently and always visit the George. We had a family get together last weekend ad my partner and I decided to book a room to save us the travel home as we would be tired and we were not disappointed! JAMES, you absolute gentleman, you and your staff are exceptional, you should be so proud, you upgraded our room when I told you we were staying, their was no issue on our side, you did it out of your own heart, bless you. I’ve been frequenting the George for many years and I’ve never been disappointed.. it is glorious, stunning, the compliments are endless, as they should be! Everything and everyone is and was an absolute delight, the rooms, breakfast, ambiance, everything. As you know I will return as I am a “local”. Love to you all❤️

They don't seem to want to answer the phone or emails so we booked elsewhere. I called several times and emailed three times; clearly they must be booked out for everything all the time so feel no need to answer any new inquiries. I can't comment on the food or service as we didn't have the opportunity to visit.

Had 6 friends staying here after a days shooting I was invited to join them for breakfast. Only to find out the chef is in charge and it was impossible to have a breakfast. Would not use this hotel in the future and will advise the rest of the shooting community the same.

We chose this hotel to stay for one night on the way to Sidmouth. The George was a good choice, initial greetings were friendly and our room was ready a little earlier than check in. The room itself was a decent size, very clean and oh so comfortable. After a drink outside in the sun we had a wander around Axminster. Not to much in the town but enough to keep us browsing. We had made a reservation in the restaurant for the evening and the food was perfect (please note the portions were very generous). Every member of staff were friendly and welcoming. Do book to have the breakfast it starts the day off just right. Thank you The George we look forward to staying again.

What a fantastic place! I’ve stayed here a few times now when working in the area and the staff have gone above and beyond on each occasion. They were more than happy to share local knowledge of places to visit and see so my wife wasn’t bored while I was at work which was really nice. The place is spotless and rooms really cozy with great features. The food is great and the bar has a great friendly atmosphere which is great when staying away on your own. The only negative thing for me was breakfast isn’t served until 8 so I’m normally late for work each morning 🤷🏼 There’s not a huge amount of things to do in Axminster but this is definitely a shining light right in the middle, we’ll definitely be back!

Lovely place for dinner, food was delicious service was fantastic, I had pork, husband had lamb both were lovely, portion sizes were generous. Lovely atmosphere and run brilliantly, although they were busy they made us feel very special. Served by Connor and fleur (flo) although busy both looked after us really well, will definitely be back!

I enjoyed a most pleasant stopover in this beautiful old hotel, occupying a King Room with views into the town and over to the picturesque hills beyond. The room was spacious and warm with a period style decor and furnishing reminiscent of days of elegance, the heavy drapes and sash windows adding to a soothing atmosphere of timelessness... The bed was large and comfortable and at my request, I was given a room with a bath. The staff were welcoming, helpful and competent and I was supplied with a delicious breakfast the following morning. I highly recommend a stay at the George Hotel, I look forward to my next visit...
