The Cubes Ella

The Cubes Ella ★★★

📍 The Cubes, Ella, Badulla

"I had a good experience with the hotel. The room was beautiful, there was hot water, and the dinner and breakfast were delicious. However, due to the construction site nearby, the view from the window didn't match the photos. However, that doesn't apply to the hotel."

Ella Flower Garden Resort

Ella Flower Garden Resort ★★★★

📍 3rd mile post, passara rd, Ella, Badulla

"This hotel is worth staying for the stunning mountain views alone. Otherwise, the rooms are a bit dirty, especially the bathroom, with lots of dead insects on the curtains. The bathroom lacks even basic amenities (soap dish, glass for toothbrushes, etc.). There were mosquitoes in the room upon check-in. The staff didn't seem particularly concerned."

📍 GALKANDA, HAPUTALE, Badulla

"This is a pretty place and a small hotel. Staff were helpful and welcoming. Room was clean and bathroom modern. The gardens are very pretty and the pool was lovely and cool. We had dinner outside next to the pool with the fire lit as it’s cooler in the mountains. Food was good and the chef came and said hello too which was nice."

Mapakada Village - Wild Trails & Lake Retreat - Mahiyanganaya ★★★★

📍 Bibile - Uraniya - Mahiyangana Rd, Mediyaya, Badulla

"We had a wonderful stay at Mapakada Village. The staff was incredibly friendly, the food was delicious, and the pool was fantastic. At around 7 p.m., we watched flying foxes over the pool, and then, to our surprise, elephants walked past the hotel. It was an unforgettable experience! We highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the area."

"This hotel is basic. No duvet in the room, apparently you have to request one. Nice welcome tea and some local snacks while waiting to check in but beware there are still mosquitoes around despite the cooler temperature. I got bitten twice whilst waiting to check in. I was put on the ground floor with a view of the car park which was disappointing given the incredible views on offer of Ella from the rooms higher up. They have a swimming pool from what I can tell is a bit cold! The omelette at breakfast was good and they found me some green tea when I asked for it. The buffet at dinner was ok and included slices of pizza. Staff were friendly and helpful. All in all I imagine this hotel offers great views but it is way too far out from the centre of Ella so if you plan to go into town in the evening you’re looking at paying around 5,000 rupees for a taxi to take you, wait there for you and bring you back. So unless you’re there for a specific reason I’d stay closer to all the shops and bars in town."

"This hotel was dirty, damp and rooms smelt, we arrived into Ella late at night we had had a long day travelling and thought pictures liked beautiful and hotel was nice , when we arrived we could tell straight away that rooms would not be nice, took us down to rooms as soon as opened door very basic rooms smelt of mould and damp things crawling in the bed was very dirty like sheets had not been washed toilet seat broken too I complained straight away about the room damp and smelt they just turned aircon on we left room to get dinner and was looking everywhere for accommodation that night and was full , lucky enough I phoned 98 Arce and spoken to a bloke and was telling him we are desperate and he managed to get us a family run villa the next day and we checked out the next day they tried charging me a lot more more then what it was which I pay as I was getting surrounded by men which now I will dispute with my bank , ,I made my kids sleep in there clothes as bed sheets and bed that bad , I would avoid this hotel completely, breakfast was awful too the only nice thing was the tea, on booking . Com they are trying to sell it that it has loads of facilities which it has not and I told them that you are miss selling the hotel ... If you want a cold shower too this hotel is for you no hot water either Awful accommodation and I don't know where they are getting 9 star review I think they are filling it in themselves HORRIBLE experience"

Lilara Hills - Diyatalawa

"The hotel is in the mountains and forests, the environment is very good, there is a large terrace, the boss is a very kind couple, the breakfast is also very rich, the black tea is very good, you can take various photos near the hotel, take pictures of the starry sky, the galaxy and fireflies on the terrace. Super cost-effective, very recommended"

"We visited the Ella Jungle Resort in Feb 2025 and this was a big disappointment. We had two cottage rooms above each other (Room 8A and 8B) and the state of the room was pathetic. The location and surroundings are picturesque within heart of nature. However the rooms are are badly designed with poor lighting and amenities. For the price charged this was a clear rip-off. Visible signs of poor maintenance and hygiene. Bathrooms are equally badly designed with no planning as well with low pressure of water. Food quality was equally bad with small portions and lack of taste The only saving grace was the prompt and efficient service by the local staff. Very courteous and tried to help inspite of all challenges. Must compliment them for their attitude and helpful nature"

"Heaven on earth! Absolutely spoiled every morning with breakfast on their rooftop overlooking the famous Ella Rock. Possibly the best bedroom view I’ve ever seen. We travelled in April which is notoriously muggy and hot, but the electric fans are very powerful and kept us nice and cool in the evenings, they even have a sleep setting on them! Couldn’t have asked for much more. 5 min TukTuk to and from town (500sr or £1.50). Or a peaceful 10 minute walk. 11/10 would recommend"

Andriyala ★★★
"Location: The hotel is about 15 minutes' drive from Haputale and 5 minutes away from the Diyatalawa train station. Check-in: We were served cinnamon tea with palm sugar upon check-in. While our room was being cleaned, we waited in the hotel lobby where the friendly chef shared the hotel's history with us. Room: Our room featured a plush king bed, high ceilings, and sliding doors that open completely for an indoor-outdoor experience. The plunge pool is located next to the deck, overlooking the property's main pool and garden. The pool includes a jacuzzi. The room comes with a well-stocked coffee bar, and the spacious cupboard includes slippers and robes. The deck features two bean bags for lounging. The furniture and decor are modern and tasteful, offering a sense of quiet luxury. However, the room lacks privacy as it is next to the parking lot. The Wi-Fi in the room is fast and reliable. Food: We had dinner served in our room. The food was mild, and the dishes needed more seasoning. Service: The hotel manager, housekeeper, gardener, and chef are extremely friendly."

Namara Green Ella ★★★
"There is a lot to say about this boutique hotel. It is a good hotel but not great. Not yet! It has potential and can become a very good hotel. I stayed here for 5 days, unfortunately right during the period when a cyclone hit Sri Lanka. We had no electricity for half a day in 2 consecutive days. Due to the weather conditions the outside temperature was somewhere around 18 degrees Celsius. Because of this it was cold in the room too. I don't think it was more than 20 degrees in the room, maybe even less. The hotel does not have a heating system, the air conditioning does not work in heating mode either. Even so, taking into account that we had no electricity for 2 days and that the hotel does not have a generator, no appliance would have worked anyway. Breakfast is served in the lobby which is also an open space that communicates with the outside. It was cold here too and we had to stay with our jackets on. Luckily we had some winter clothes with us. I will detail the experience here by categories: Staff: very nice, attentive and friendly. They provided us with everything we needed. During the power outage they gave us blankets, battery-powered lamps, candles... Luckily we had a tablet on which we had some movies and documentaries downloaded from a streaming platform. There were times when it was raining so hard that we had to stay in the room. In the last 24 hours of our stay we had no signal on our phone. So, long live the tablet and the offline movies :) Food: good but not extraordinary. They asked me if I wanted eggs sunny side up and then they brought me for over hard once :). The traditional food is good but it is exclusively vegetarian, with rice, potatoes, noodles and lentils. The flatbreads were undercooked and were not good. One day I found a long hair in the food. I'm not a squeamish person by nature and I kept eating, but after 2 minutes I found another one :) Room: spacious and quite nicely decorated. We didn't have the best room (I'll go into more detail below). In this type of room there is a window in the bathroom, and above the window there was a piece of ventilation grille that constantly communicates with the outside. There was a space between the door and the door frame where you could put a finger. Imagine how cold air enters the bathroom and how you could hear the rain and the sound of the jungle from outside even with the bathroom door closed. Maybe in hot conditions it would be ok but like this... I was cold every time I got out of the shower. The cleanliness was impeccable. The big bed and the mattress were very good. I slept very well. There is no TV in the room so take a book with you. The hotel: it is positioned somehow on a slope. I took a picture with the hotel from the opposite hill. From the main road you go down a few steps, you enter the lobby which would normally be the ground floor. However, our room was in the basement. Basically, I went down one floor to the basement, but on the other side of the bu"
