bayowlPerfect for nature lovers seeking solitude, the seven cabins are separated by a vast distance. Due to the rolling terrain and obstructed by vegetation, guests can't even see each other, so there's no need to worry about disturbing one another. Due to the secluded location, all services are provided by staff driving uphill in pickup trucks or SUVs. The surrounding grasslands are dense, but there are no mosquitoes. The only annoying thing is the large flies (during the day) and moths (at night). The only bugs provided are insect spray and an old-fashioned fly swatter. I rarely use the spray, so I've nearly broken my fly swatter. I recommend installing an electric fly trap with UV light and long-burning camping wormwood sticks (even if they offer them for a fee).
After cleaning up the flies that have slipped into your cabin (they look like they're definitely wild, not the city's garbage-eating kind), you can enjoy the natural scenery. After living in the city for a long time, witnessing the sunset and night sky here is truly breathtaking, well worth the two-hour drive and the price. There are no insects here; the only sounds are the fluttering of grasshoppers and flies, making it incredibly quiet. Light pollution from Beijing and Chongli hardly affects the night sky here.
Playhaus is a permanent RV, and most of the furnishings and storage space are designed for RV mobility, which makes it a bit awkward as a hostel. For example, the large, panoramic bed requires a bit of climbing up... For someone who's experienced American and German trailers, this is fine, but someone completely new to RVing might have issues. The two reclining chairs in the room, while comfortable, take up too much space, adding to the cramped feel. I recommend replacing them with two or three small chairs and a folding five-step ladder for getting to the bed. The facilities are a bit dated, but that's acceptable given the stunning views. The food is quite good, and the staff's hard work in packing and driving off-road makes it worth the price. The Medog meat pie was surprisingly delicious.
I really hope the hotel considers using a fly trap; using it to swat flies during the day and mosquitoes at night is a real downfall. 😰
