"The overall vibe could be described as monastic luxury. The location and room quality was amazing. But you want to think hard about how important a view/windows are before you book. If you are OK with out them then it's all good. Many rooms look into interior courtyards/corridors and windows are all frosted. Like many places in Mexico, the whole check in and so on is run digitally via WhatsApp, so if you dont get your codes in advance then you could be in trouble. Other than the sparsely (but very high quality) appointed room there are no amenities that i could identify. But they share a list of things to do and do respond to WhatsApp if you have questions."

We visited Oaxaca City in September, 2025, and stayed for a week at La Catrina de Alcalá. We had a King room towards the back of the building. The room was large with plenty of room to store all of our items (clothes, toiletries, backpacks, umbrellas, etc.) and was very quiet. The bedding was comfortable and the room was very clean. The staff were all very helpful and kind. The included breakfast was continental, so we ordered off the menu a couple of times. All the food was delicious and fresh. I especially enjoyed the Chicken Mole Tamale. Finally, the location was perfect! The hotel is located on a pedestrian only street in the heart of the city. We were able to walk everywhere! We would definitely recommend this hotel and will return on our next trip to Oaxaca City.

The location of the hotel is top !! Right next to the botanical garden, very easy to explore the city in walking distance. We requested a quiet room, it was very noisy though, the door was not thick enough perhaps. We were on the ground floor , we could hear every single person passing the entrance, every conversation… The quality of their towels and bedding were not good. Staff were very helpful though!

A super nice hostel. We loved the kitchen and free water and coffee. The staff is very helpfull and the location is super central. The bathroom was clean most of the time and the room is ok (2 pers room).

Centrally located and value for money, no A/C but a fan is provided, can be a bit hectic and noisy when large school groups stay. Currently a lot of extensive roadworks in front but should be completed in a few weeks.
