Our stay at Hotel Rambla in early July was a bit of a comedy show. We arrived early, and the receptionist, bless him, lets us store our bags in a secure room until check-in. This is as far as the nice gestures went, folks. So we came back at 1:45pm to check in, thinking, 'Right, let's get this holiday started!' But no, we're given a room that's still being cleaned. So there we are, standing outside like lemons for 15 minutes while the cleaner finishes up. The room was supposed to be ready by 1pm! I'm thinking, 'Is this some kind of Spanish siesta prank show?' The room itself was pretty hot. I mean, it was like a sauna in there. The air conditioning was off, and every morning it would turn off on its own, like it had a mind of its own. So every day, I had to go to the front desk and ask them to turn it back on. I felt like a kid asking for more pocket money. 'Please, sir, can I have some cold air?' Now, the bed was very big and confortable, and the sheets were clean. So that's a win. The shower worked, the toilet flushed - basic victories. The TV worked, and there was a safe in the wardrobe, which cost 1 eruo each time you locked it. I mean, who charges for peace of mind? The hotel in general badly needs updating. It's not what you'd expect from a genuine 3-star hotel. We found crumbs in the drawers from previous guests. I thought, 'Great, they're left us some snacks!' The balcony door wouldn't lock, and there was only one plug socket in the entire room. Good thing I brought a multi-plug extension cable. One night, we return late, about 2am, not that late for a night out in Benidorm, right? And we find ourselves locked out of the hotel. We're banging on the door like we're in some sort of emergency, until some other guets let us in through a staff entrance. An elderly couple had the same issue. The receptionist finally shows up, annoyed with us for using the staff entrance. Well, maybe if he was at the front desk where should have been, we wouldn't be re-enacting scenes from Mission Impossible! And he gives us a rude reply when we ask what's going on. Unprofessional and very disappointing behavior. He only apologised because his boss was also locked out, and when he finally got in, he gave the receptionist a right telling-off. You can't make this stuff up. There's no bar at the hotel. You know, because who needs a bar on holiday? And while the pool looked okay, the sun loungers were dirty. We didn't try the food, so I can't comment on that. Maybe it's for the best. When we checked out and left, nobody at reception thanked us for our stay or even said goodbye. It's like they were glad to see the back of us! Overall, I wouldn't stay at Hotel Rambla again. Unfriendly staff, locked out at 2am, no bar, room wasn't ready. Disappointing hotel. Honestly, it felt more like an episode of Fawlty Towers than a holiday.
