The worst restaurant (bar) I have ever eaten in. A clue what to expect is there is no menu posted on their website which is no surprise because the prices are way more expensive than all the competition in the area. Another clue is the restaurant was not open and food was served in the bar as there were only 10 diners in on a Saturday night including our party of 5. All other restaurants in the area were full. Apart from the price the quality of meals and service was dismal. Food - 2 steak pies, 1 beef curry, a chicken salad and a burger. I was shocked at the chicken salad, it was half a chicken breast with a few slices of pepper and a bit of iceberg lettuce thrown onto the plate - shocking at £16.30. Steak and Ale pies - really unpleasant and overpowered with salt and herbs and no taste of ale. They looked like a mass produced cheap pie which had been taken out of it foil tray and plonked over a small portion of dreadful chips and was way too expensive at £16.80. Homemade beef curry looked like someone had heated up a tin of dog food and thrown it on a plate and that cost £16.40. The burger was not the best quality and was also pricey at £10.60. All the portions of chips were very small and had not been cooked correctly. They were pale and soggy which was not helped by gravy/curry tipped over them. It was difficult to know if you were eating a soggy chip or a bit of soggy pastry because it all merged together. Veg not presented well. The person that served that could not possibly be a qualified chef/cook. Service - not very friendly. The lady who came to take our orders wasn't very professional and she presented us with 1 menu to read between 5 of us and she hovered over us impatiently while we passed in around trying to make a choice. No apology for having to eat in the bar rather than the restaurant which we had booked. We didn't mid eating in the bar but we did notice the staff sat around drinking by the bar and we did feel they couldn't be bothered to look after the diners. The 2 waitresses were pleasant. The hotel - 3 star hotel more expensive than most in the area and clearly it was under occupied as other places nearby were fully booked. It was basic and a bit dated but it was spotlessly clean with a reasonable bed. Glad we didn't book breakfast based on our evening meal experience. The lady who booked us in was helpful and pleasant but Reception was closed so had to come away from the bar to check us in. I hope this review will prevent another poor customer parting with their money on such awful food. I have never written a review as bad as this one and I am not really a habitual complainer so this is a genuine piece of advice.
