Stayed here for the night with my family prior to travelling to our holiday destination. We have stayed at numerous Travelodge throughout the country and we always Google Earth/ Streetview the hotel and local area prior to arrival. The area looked clean online and upon arrival. We decided against early check-in as we were visiting Aberfan and Caerphilly town prior to having lunch at the nearby Red Kite. Our restaurant booking was originally for 3.30pm but we changed that to an earlier time of 2pm. We headed to the hotel and saw the staff cleaning up outside which is good. We entered the reception area to enquire if we could park our vehicle prior to checking in as some hotels require your registration to be logged in. We were told yes, no problem and the polite lady at reception asked for our name as our room may be ready and we could check-in. We told her and she confirmed 2 Adults, I said no 3 adults. I located our booking confirmation and provided proof. The check-in girl then said ‘I’ll have to fetch my supervisor’. We presumed there had been an error of sorts but it caused us some concern. The supervisor quickly sorted this but stated we could not have our room early unless we paid £15.00. I stated I wouldn’t pay £15 for 1 hr and that her colleague stated we could have our room early. She said the best she can do is 2.30 but to return at 2.15 to check. We declined and said we’d be back at 3pm. Having stayed at approximately 30+ Travelodge hotels, some for several days we have quite often been allowed to check-in that bit earlier even when booking early check-in. We’ve had the ‘oh your room is ready, you can have it now’ on numerous occasions. The hotel was clean inside and quiet throughout the night inside. No running around by other guests or banging. The exterior of the hotel building looks dirty and needs a freshen up. It could do with a bar/ restaurant inside. There were people hanging around the carpark during the night. Appeared to be a few car cruisers and people wandering around, often sitting on the steps opposite reception. It’s a decent hotel in a decent location, It’s not the best Travelodge in terms of facilities, but it’s quiet, clean, well positioned. It would have had full marks but for the check-in situation.
