This was a very nice hotel in virtually every respect except one. It's a lovely old Cotswold building, with nice decor and ambience. I didn’t dine in the restaurant, but it looked very good. Every member of staff I interacted with was delightful. The problem was the room: small, low-ceilinged, airless, pokey, and just too hot. As seems to be the case with many hotels these days, there was no air-con, and the windows were small and did not admit much air. There was a fan—a Dyson. These are pretty expensive items, and I’d always assumed they must be very good for the money, but this one was ineffectual, nowhere near as effective as a conventional bladed fan. As a result, I spent a very warm, uncomfortable night. This was early May, too, so heaven knows what it must be like in summer. The thing is, for the price of a Dyson fan you could get a small portable air-con unit. The room I booked was a ‘King’—the smallest category. Maybe the other rooms are fine, but I’d be wary of booking this one in warm weather.
