"We were so very excited about our trip to the sublime Comporta but we were so very disappointed. We booked the trip with our family to celebrate a milestone birthday. When I made the booking I was very clear that we would be coming with our 2 children ages 7 and 8, and I was assured the hotel was friendly but it’s definitely not. We booked a 3 bedroom villa with a pool but the pool was ICE cold so the kids couldn’t swim in the villa pool. So we headed up to main pool which was warmer but we were told the kids weren’t allowed to swim in that pool. The staff was rude and directed us to this tiny pool by the reception which was also freezing and there was not really a place to sit as parents. When we checked in no one mentioned these rules so we were surprised and our kids disappointed in the moment. I completely understand if a hotel is not kid friendly and does not want children there, but at least be honest about it before having a family travel for hours to visit your resort. There’s even a whole kids page on the website about children’s activities which would lead one to believe that kids would be welcome. We will definitely not be coming back nor recommending this hotel to others."

"Despite arriving in some of the most hideous rain and wind weather possible, QdaC gave us a cosy, luxurious, delicious and completely pampered experience. We felt so lucky to have found this place. There was evidence everywhere that in peak summer season, this is definitely a rockin' family place, but as we found it is the quieter shoulder times where you can take really a breath, spread out and connect into something very special. From the thoughtful and fun architecture and art, (FYI, we discovered the Dior flagship shop in Lisbon ALSO has a textile sculpture by Joana Vasconcelos) to the meticulous decor emphasizing local and global originality. The immaculate and meditative vegetable and herb gardens and landscaping with hidden corners and surprises there's a peaceful and playful energy uncommon in many places of this caliber. We ate and drank, (and ate and drank...) VERY well and the spa experiences and facilities brought a new level of natural healing and deep relaxation. But even with ALL of this amazingness, for us it is the people, (with the help of two fabulous cats) at QdaC who make it five stars. ALL of the staff, (gate house to baristas, front desk to masseuse) manage a high-wire act of impeccable professionalism, highly knowledgeable information sourcing and good fun. We learned bits of new languages, had some great laughs, got the inside scoop on special places from Carvalhal to Nepal - all of it thoughtfully celebrating over and over how interconnected we all are/NEED to be, in this world right now."

"We had a super relaxing and wonderful time at Spatia. The property and rooms are absolutely stunning - remote while feeling connected to Comporta. Wonderful dining and amazing service, particularly from Kiran and Birendra. Cannot recommend Spatia highly enough."

Sublime Comporta ★★★★★
"We stayed at Sublime Comporta as a family of five, and while the property itself is stunning, our experience was marred by repeated service failures that made it hard to enjoy. Despite organizing everything over a month in advance and consistently confirming a party of five in every email exchange, the hotel repeatedly mishandled our reservations. Our Circle dinner reservation was cancelled the day of, with staff claiming only two spaces were available for a party of five. When we asked for an 8:30pm alternative at Canalha, we were offered a 9pm slot — the exact same availability already visible to us on SevenRooms. No real effort was made to find an actual solution. The beach club staff seemed to have received no training at all. They didn’t know whether reservations were required, offered no help arranging transport back to the hotel, and ignored repeated requests for service. My wife’s request for after-sun lotion was never followed up on. We also received a call at 12:30am — while already asleep — about returning a box of matches. Turn down service was not provided all nights. On top of this, we found a rat drinking from the pool while my children were swimming, which was alarming and, frankly, a health and safety concern that should never happen at a property of this caliber. Separately, dinner at Canalha was disrupted when we found a large hair in the fries served with the ribeye. To make matters worse, when we finished dinner at Canalha and asked for a cart to take us back to our room, we were told we needed to have booked transportation in advance — something no one had informed us of beforehand. This was yet another example of basic information simply never being communicated to guests. This is a beautiful hotel with real potential, but guest services, staff training, and basic food and pool hygiene need urgent attention."

Quinta Da Comporta - Wellness Boutique Resort ★★★★★
"Even though on the outskirts of the small village of Carvalhal, Quinta da Comporta is a remarkably tranquil and peaceful resort on the edge of a rice plantation. Whilst set back a kilometre from the beach it had a very coastal feel. The accommodation is stunning. Our two floor Villa had Terrace and balconies front and rear with an outlook over a sand covered coastal landscaped area with grasses and olive trees. The glass pool is unique and all the amenities and fittings selected, maintaining the rural and uncommercialised atmosphere. The staff are all young, enthusiastic and helpful. A special ‘shout out’ to the pool guys and Valet parking guys who all went beyond the call of duty Comporta is a very interesting area but one fears for how it will be in 5-10 years. It is certainly a lot more expensive than average Portugal. The only small disappointment was the beach. Due to limited access points ( to preserve the dunes) it was quite urbanised around the beach accesses. I was expecting miles of empty golden sand. However the beaches did not seem better than Algarve beaches which also enjoy miles of golden sand."
