The hotel is the old Poinciana and l would not have stayed there if l knew that. First l was told twice staff would be in site for 2 a.m check in. They were not. Also rooms don't have carpets or wardrobes. They are big and bare. I am cynical of other reviews that compliment the place with glowing gushing praise. Bathrooms okay but hot water real problem and room very basic. These are not 200 dollar plus rooms.

The hotel is on the edge of the CBD close to indigenous housing. The street outside the hotel filled up with drunk, fighting caucasians after the bars closed at 4am. The room was not clean (I found a dirty singlet and face mask behind my bed when I was checking that I had not left anything behind when I was checking out). The internet was non-existent. We had hot water but others were complaining that they had none. Having said that, we could walk to all of the attractions and there was a free city bus service for three months that we took advantage of. The managers, Riley and his mum, Stacey, were great though.

Admittedly it’s a bit of a shock when you arrive and see the average looking exterior and reception area. The lift is old and tired and you really think youve made the wrong decision. However….. the rooms are spotlessly clean and well equipped. The location is perfect and the staff are there to help with anything you need. Parking is right out the front and you’re close to everything. Seriously has to be the best value budget accomodation in Darwin atm.

The Poinciana Inn in centrally located, close to two major supermarkets, Post Office, chemists, the Esplanade, Darwin Entertainment Centre and the eateries in Mitchell Street. Service station around the corner has coffee. Quiet at night. The managers were generous in meeting our requests relating to access to our room to fit in with our travel arrangements. Much appreciated. The room was large enough for three adults, good shower, clean, comfortable beds. Didn't have time to try the TV but the air conditioning and WiFi work well. There is a bus stop close by - a tip for Australian Seniors - free travel on public buses for people 65+ yrs of age.

Value for money great position very clean management are fantastic. We were out all day so why spend another $150 a night to shower and sleep would highly recommend .stayed a week the room was serviced regularly the bed was very comfortable and secure parking for our hire vehicle
