The Cricketers

We met family for Sunday lunch. Glad we booked as it was busy. Unfortunately there is no vegetarian option for Sunday lunch and only 4 vegetarian options on the whole menu, which was very disappointing. Had the fried halloumi which was ok but not very healthy. Good dessert choices.

I have stayed several here several times and the rooms are exceptional. Fresh milk, fruit, cereals etc comfortable and cosy. Breakfast and Dinner have been superb, lots of choice freshly prepared and thoroughly enjoyed thank you so much Ruth and her wonderful chef. Have already booked to stay soon and thoroughly enjoy my stay here.DJ

Just got back from.2 nights stay as we were attending a wedding at Grittenham barn.Marvellous place quiet, well stocked comfortable room with all the essentials you ask for The food on offer is good honest pub food at a competitive price. The staff are extremely friendly approachable and professional.We had a lovely stay and would recommend this Inn to anyone staying in the area.

Service was shocking, table was empty and clear, sat down at table looked at menu, went to bar to order to be told after 10 minutes that the table was reserved and they couldn’t seat us. Not sure why there wasn’t a reserved sign was very embarrassing as the whole pub looked at us as if we had done something wrong. Avoid unless you like being embarrassed.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon with a view to booking a table for my birthday. The Cricketers had been recommended to us as we are new to the area. We ordered coffees. The main room with the fire was empty. Two tables had reserved on them. The other tables had recently been vacated. We were told we couldn’t sit at any of the tables in the main room because ‘they were booked for the shoot’. Consequently all the customers were in the room to the side of the bar. Four out of the five tables were occupied and it was a fairly tight fit. We stayed quite a while as we thought we might have a meal. No one turned up from the shoot so we could have had our coffees in the empty main room. The girl behind the bar was unwelcoming and abrupt. It was not a pleasant experience. The menu looked very inviting but we will not be returning. I have never written a Trip advisor report before but this visit merited a comment.

Fantastic meals (Sunday roast, ham & chips, crumbles, cheesecake), lovely garden ( specially if the sun is shining) great service ( friendly staff), brilliant chef (tasty food). Have visited about 4 times now and been happy every time. We will be back.
