Shaftesbury Hotel Dundee

Shaftesbury Hotel Dundee

Dundee|1.94km from city centre
What a great surprise finding the Shaftesbury Lodge Dundee. Found myself unexpectedly in Dundee for the day and night. Really didn’t want to fork out on city centre prices but wanted a good rated Hotel and found the Shaftesbury Hotel Dundee by chance. It’s around a 25 minute (1.4mi) walk from train station. Please don’t let the 25 minute walk put you off. The walk takes you past some of Dundee’s best rated coffee shops along Perth Road on route to the Hotel. The money saved on city centre hotel prices allows you to stop by these gems of coffee shops. Arrived 2 hours before check in and the manager was super cool and friendly about it. The room looked really cozy and noticed a bed I wanted to jump into at 1pm but more about that later. Room is of Victorian design with high ceilings. Extremely clean, tidy and cozy. Kettle, coffee, galaxy drink, Pringles, bottled water and tasty biscuits all on offer. Smart TV with various apps. I had Netflix & BBC iPlayer on. Plenty of fresh towels and a great shower. Oh! The bed? Quite simply Heaven! Taken a note of the bedding and pillows and will try to recreate at home. Just finished the all Scottish breakfast (other tasty options are available). The 25 minute walk allows you to burn off the coffee shop treats and big breakfast. Best 25 minute walk in Dundee😀. Was embarrassed to have found the room rate at only £60. Sometimes you get lucky. If I’m back for the football again will seek out the Shaftesbury. Staff very friendly and polite! Thank You.

Awful rude workers, here’s the story of my night stay below. I was driving back from Manchester on my new motorbike that I purchased that same day. I was caught on high winds and heavy rain warnings, I was drenched right trough my boxers and once got to Dundee puddles on the road and wind was soo bad I pulled in just of the main road at the premier in, when I went in absolutely soaked I asked if I could get some help to get a room and if they could dry my stuff or is there was anywhere I could put some of it so would be dry for me leaving the next morning and try head home. I was told first of all to go book online did not get offered anything to drink to warm up even a towel, felt not welcome at all. They could see I was shivering and water dripping down my helmet and all over my clothes. They said there is heaters and hangers in the room and that would do, so I asked if I could atleast borrow a robe as other ways would slept naked they said no and one of the workers laughed and said “if we supplied robes” we would be more like £100 a night, I did not even react to that and booked the room as needed a hot shower asap. I went upstairs and noticed the heater (small heater) was right in the corner of the room and the hangers where on the “wardrobe area” totally impossible for me to hang on top of the heater I had over 8 items needing dried + my shoes the lot. Once I noticed I went down and asked again if they could atleast put some of my stuff on a drying room or staff room to help me speed up the process and was told that they couldn’t help me and so I went back upstairs, I had my shower went to sleep and took turns trying to dry my things I slept wrapped on a wet towel and next morning my stuff was still not dry to tried using the hair dryer which helped but not totally so left with damped stuff and put toilet paper inside my shoes to make it little dried. Whole point to the story is if I was working and was part of a knowing hotel like the premier all over the uk and saw a biker come in in that state I would of went the extra mile to help that guest in this case was helped in no way or care in the world. Totally shocking no that was a dry summer night this was driving and having to choose somewhere as an emergency so yes totally shocking will never stay in this place again never.

Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa

We stayed for two nights, ate at the hotel on the 2nd evening and enjoyed the food and service. Staff are very helpful. Room was spacious and comfortable. We did not have the breakfast. Used the gym which was very well-provisioned. There is ample parking on site for£5/night. Would certainly return to the Apex and recommend to others
Best Western Queens Hotel
3.9/557 Reviews
Booked this hotel through “my hotel breaks.com” on a B&B basis. When we arrived the reception staff were very helpful at check-in and we had free parking for 24 hours. Room was big bright with en-suite and plenty of storage. There are enough portals for mobile phones and lights for reading. The bed was very comfortable and we both had a good nights sleep. We were able to have a coffee with biscuits first thing before going down stairs for breakfast. The breakfast room is light and airy and the breakfast food was lovely, staff were so helpful and attentive in the breakfast room and we both had plenty to eat before setting off for a day in Dundee and Broughty ferry. Thank you Queens Hotel we will be back 😀
Staybridge Suites Dundee

A converted jute mill is the location for this fabulous hotel & suites. You are greeted by a great ambience and friendly staff. The suite was spacious and well-equipped. The kitchen area was spotless and certainly would enable one to cater for themselves. The bathroom, again spacious, had the best shower. A comfy bed gave a good night's sleep. Breakfast was a self service affair. The breakfast seating area was light and inviting. Food was tasty and constantly replenished, and the variety of hot drinks was impressive. It was a buffet style but fitted our leisurely approach to the day. The only fly in the ointment was the parking. There is very limited parking for the hotel (for which you would be charged £12.50) or a short walk away there is local authority run car park which at the pay and display you can pay to park -we paid £6.60, expertly explained by Holly at reception, it maybe needs to be made more clear on the website for clarity.
The Landmark Hotel and Leisure Club
4.2/5122 Reviews
This hotel was located on the outskirts of Dundee, which is ideal for going into the town or further exploration. The hotel was clean and the staff were amazing. There is a restaurant on site, and food can be brought in as well (we did order Uber eats which was no problem). The pool is great and worth a visit if you can.
Sleeperz Hotel Dundee
4.5/5121 Reviews
This hotel is in a great location! It's right next to the train station and opposite the Discovery ship. The rooms are clean, modern, and quiet. The shower has great water pressure and the pillows on the beds are very comfortable. Also, the Wifi was good. The kettle and free teas and coffees were nothing to write home about and when you use the shower you do get water everywhere and totally soak the floor because there is no door to close-just a half glass wall. This was not really a huge issue though, and I really liked staying here and would definitely recommend this hotel and definitely return!
Travelodge Dundee Strathmore Avenue
3.9/540 Reviews
Stayed here on 1st June for the very first time. Building and grounds definitely need some work from outside and I would have scored less but the amazing friendly team and very clean rooms made up for this. As a regular user of Travelodge (and also other hotels) I urge the company to invest in this one. Located slightly out the city in among residential streets means very quiet and no traffic/people noise. Would stay again but prefer the building and rooms in Dundee Centre one.
