Our stay at The White Swan (25 & 26 May 2025) has been absolutely wonderful. The people have been so welcoming, the food has been amazing - such huge portions, however, our stay was made more memorable by Jan who looked after us the entire evening. Jan went above and beyond for us, treating us so well (my mum had a sore neck and she got a hot cloth for her to put on her neck). Nothing was too much for her, she was just lovely! I'm staying for 2 nights again. Working at Farne Salmon n Trout factory. The hotel is a bit tired, but decorators are in just now smartening up the place. Stayed here for 2 nights, 2 weeks ago. Back for 2 nights again. Room needs gutted, especially the bathroom. This seems to be in hand as new owners, I believe. Staff are amazing. Girls behind the bar are superb. Breakfast girl is just 1st class. Had a dinner 2 weeks ago. Hot food on a cold plate. Sorry, but that's just not on. Told Jan on my 1st visit. 2nd visit, same again. Food is cooked so well. In fact, the food is bloody brilliant. Such a shame my complaint has fallen on deaf ears. PUT HOT FOOD ON A COLD PLATE. THE HOT FOOD TRIES SO HARD TO HEAT UP THE PLATE THAT ITS ON, THAT IT'S COLD IN 10/15 MINS. A CHEF REALLY NEEDS TO KNOW THAT. VERY DISAPPOINTING. Great bar. Sky sports. Great staff. So friendly. Please get the simplest of things right. The breakfast girl did this morning. Heat the plate up before putting food on it. It's just so easy. My only moan about here. My friend Gordon R would be horrified. I've secured a good contract at Farne up the road. I'm off to the chippy tonight cos they don't have cold plates. Please take heed of this review. It's so easily dealt with. I will be back. Cheers. Cookie.

A fantastic welcome, all the staff are very friendly and accommodating. The hotel is old and a little tired. But it’s kept clean and to be fair is not exactly expensive. I ate in the bar with my work colleague, the service, beers and food were all good. Make sure you check the specials board, there were some nice additions on there. It was busy early doors, but many people left after a few drinks and some ate too. So the hotel is well supported. Now to the best bit and it really is. The Scottish breakfast is great, I mean really great. All freshly prepared, the Haggis was delicious. Local produce I’m sure, the bacon and sausage were amazing. I think there’s a special rate for residents, but even full price it’s good value for money too. So, all in all, it’s not selling itself as a luxury hotel, it’s in the middle of a quiet Borders town and does what it needs to do. I was working locally, so it was perfectly located, a few minutes drive to work. For that purpose it was ideal.

Fantastic value, a warm welcome and very comfortable accommodation. Stayed for two nights on my own. The pub is a traditional coaching inn type pub and clearly a magnet for locals, who were very evident in the bar. There was very much a sense of community, with customers greeting one another but also friendly to strangers like me. I felt very comfortable and enjoyed traditional pub fare both evenings. Staff were friendly, efficient and skilled. My room was a small twin, with a tiny but very tidy and modern shower room. The beds had fantastic mattresses (high end Ikea), which I found extremely comfortable both sleeping and sitting up on to watch telly (the latter isn't easy as I have a somewhat creaky back). The hotel is a little tired in places, but that is very much what I would expect for a historic building that hasn't had actual millions thrown at it to turn it into five stars. But where is mattered everything was well thought through and delivered. The cost for two nights B&B and evening meals with wine totalled less than a single night B&B in many other pubs with rooms. I would most definitely stay here again.

Very run down hotel. In need of TLC. Stopped by for lunch as we passed through Duns. Claire the bar lady was lovely. The food is standard pub grub. The mince in the lasagna wasn't of good quality. Worth a try I suppose. Husband enjoyed the cask ale

We called ahead to check that they allowed a dog in bar … that was no problem! We chose one portion of Broth soup really nice home made & it came with a warm baguette. We chose steak & ale pie with a puff pastry topping, a very generous helping very hot with green beans & broccoli & chips & the other chose a chicken curry & rice & naan bread which again was a generous portion so tasty & piping hot! We had a beer & a lime & soda. The meal was excellent so well done chef & the waitress was friendly . The only downside was that the seats weren’t very comfy AND it seemed like we’d every table around us swore so that really was not right so we won’t be back ! Plus we saw 2 separate individuals , one at the bar having a vape just unbelievable tho but again very off putting ! But we’ll done the cheffing !
