Went to a wedding and omg it was awful. First here comes the soup I asked for the vegatarian option but it had chunks of beef in it. So I called a waitress who said she would strain it omg did she think I was going to eat it 🤔. Then her comes my main 😳 chicken again I had asked for veggie option so it wax taken away and I received some mushrooms 🍄. Then the desert was berry's well red currants not witj anything else omg the whole experience was a farce from start to finish shocking.

The few staff are friendly and helpful, but the reception desk is not used - pressing the bell results in somebody emerging after a minute or so. The room we had was perfectly fine, if a little dated and showing its age, and very spacious, in the wing with the large pergola in front to the left of the main building. There was no room wifi in the wing, it being available only in main reception. The grounds have not been maintained for a long while and are becoming overgrown. The 'beautiful fountain' and the ponds are dry, there are last season's leaves lying around and overgrown paths, bushes and steps. The bar is not used, being closed shut with cable ties and looking forlorn. The lounge is comfortable with fresh flowers on display filling the air with their scent. Breakfast is buffet-style continental and English. Toast has to be ordered by ringing the bell. It's reasonable value for what it is but don't take too much notice of the hotel website. The best word to describe the establishment is 'weird'. It was an amusing and comfortable stay for unexpected reasons! Expect to be able to dine out afterwards on tales of your experience ;-). A short walk of less than ten minutes takes you to a nearby pub, the Secret Garden. Food is OK, people are chatty and there is an extensive and well maintained outside area. The ales on hand pump are from the local Wobbly Brewery which would be fine except that they were all served in very poor condition.

No receptionist on arrival (have to ring for someone to come down and see you) Nowhere to leave keys at checkout No signs to say where anything was (bit like a maze) ●Lovely bathroom Suspicious staining on mattress Lots of dust all around the lower part of the bed (no good for allergy and asthma sufferers like myself) Room was so cold we had to go to supermarket to buy electric blanket Got told breakfast was at 9 so we got down there for 09:04 and it was finished

I stayed here last night with a lady friend and really enjoyed it. Such a quirky little hotel with bags of charm. Definitely one to experience rather than me try and explain it. If you like things a bit on the eccentric side then this place is for you.

This hotel was lovely overall. Clean, warm and comfy with some classic touches. We were in the orchid suite with a four poster bed and Jacuzzi bath which was great. There were a few small repairs needed but its a huge property and not a chain hotel so to be expected. Only complaint that the bar closes early and hall was a little dusty on the stairs but our room was lovely and clean with everything needed. Breakfast was amazing with perfect fresh eggs and toast made to order, mushrooms and all the bits for a full English as well as continental. Grounds were very pretty for a wander too.

Such a shame. This could be a great hotel with some investment, decent staff and a thorough clean and some maintenance. You arrive into a reception that hasn't been dusted or hoovered in a long time. The reception is unmanned with a phone number to call someone who arrives 5 minutes later, gives you a key, directions to your room. The room is tired, but large and warm. The carpet is filthy and doesn't seem to have been hoovered in months. The window sills are dirty with dead insects on them. The bathroom is well lit and a good size but the taps are falling off the wall, the panel behind the toilet is coming unscrewed and there are black mold patches around the bath. Breakfast is okay, but again, you have to wait for staff to appear and there is no hot water for tea and you receive toast when you have just about finished eating. Its also served 8am to 9am on a Sunday! There appears to be two staff members on duty and its too much for them to cope with. I can't recommend this hotel to anyone. Dont be fooled by imagery of the outside of the building and grand looking rooms. Such a shame as this really could be lovely

Shocking, so many negatives. My photos say it all. Advertised photos are nothing like it. Alan room is musty, tired, dirty, wasp nest in shower vent, video to show this! Cracks in walls, bath tap not fixed. Dirty bat, shower awful. Not 4 star, really terrible. Kettle in room, very basic & no choice of beverages. No culinary alternative diet offered at breakfast. Room key sellotaped!?! Doreen abrupt & not a host at all. How they can charge £125 a night via online platforms begs belief. I'm widely travelled & visited many correct 4 star hotels. This for 1 night was a bad experience. Please do not visit. Much better choices offered for your money. Avoid! WiFi does not work, inaccusable excuse offered.

The whole hotel and grounds looked very neglected. Our room was average, but only had one lamp working instead of three. The duvet was a 10.5 tog which was much too hot in August,so pulled it off and slept just with the duvet cover. We did have a fan in the room, a positive! The toilet rolls were just on the floor and had to be picked up by hand, kept thinking who else was having to put their hands on them. My husband has an immune illness and cleanliness is really important. No bar open! Breakfast fine. A hotel past its best days.
