There are still many families living in the tulou. Main business is agriculture and tourism.
The roads leading to the tulou are made up of irregularly shaped stones. As such, it’s not easy to pull the big luggage along (few hundred metres walk). Recommend to carry backpacks for short stays, leave the big luggage at the tourists centre.
Good experience to live together with friendly people whom I can practice my Hakka.
They also provide home-cooked meals, reasonable prices. Good food."

The only failings : the breakfast was a bit lacking + it can be weird for some people that the bathroom and the bedroom are not on the same floor.

Excellent location to explore Yunshuiyao and visit both Hakka houses Huaiyuanlou and Heguilou along the river within walking distance. Excellent service - free afternoon tea and fruits in the evening. Restaurant also is very good. Reception helped us with the car for to visit Tianluokeng cluster."

"This is one of the best homestay experiences that I ever had. The homestay is located in Taxia Village which is quieter and less commercialized in Tulou scenic areas that provide lots of privacy for the guests. The room and the building are located just next to the clear water stream. At night, I can even hear the stream of water flowing sounds. The villagers are very friendly to the tourists walking around. They are not pushy about selling any commercial products to tourists which is very contrast to the other commercializedTulou scenic areas. The owner/host is very hospitable, friendly, and helpful. This differentiates from the other hotel staying experience. I also got help on how to get around the Tulou scenic areas and where to get reasonable price restaurants from the host.

"The homestay itself is a renovated Tulou. It is antique and very experiential. It is a good choice for those who want to experience Tulou accommodation. Disadvantages: There is no hot water in the room. We booked a family room with two large beds, which accommodated 4 adults and 1 child. The room rate of 2099 during the Spring Festival is acceptable. But it is outrageous that there is no hot water. It’s okay that the whole family didn’t take a shower. The mountain spring water is very cold, and it’s hard to wash your face and hands. Secondly, because the room is a Tulou with a wooden structure, no matter upstairs or downstairs, inside or outside the room, as long as someone walks, you can feel the vibration and sound while lying in bed. Friends who like quietness and leisure should not miss Taxia Village. The temperature is suitable, cool, very original and not very commercialized. The Firefly we stayed at this time is a store run by the couple with great care. We also let the boss arrange the food at Firefly. We told the boss how many people can eat and what the budget is, so we can go out and play with peace of mind. The meal in the picture only costs 200 yuan, tastes great and is very filling! ! What I like most is that there is a large platform to dry clothes, and you can lie on a chair and watch the stars in the sky at night! You can also see a lot of fireflies in June and July! After living abroad for a long time, I came back to celebrate the New Year. I drove all the way from Shanghai with my family and pets. There are three places in China that I want to visit: Tibet, Jiuzhaigou, and Fujian Tulou; especially the animated film ”Big Fish and Begonia” a few years ago, which has a plot about Tulou. I found this accommodation temporarily on Ctrip. It was an authentic Tulou with a very affordable price. The service was especially touching. The boss lady was warm and down-to-earth. After I called the ticket office at the scenic spot to communicate, she was waiting by the roadside early. The paths in the scenic spot are narrow, the navigation is winding, there are many cars, and we often have to merge with other cars. We also encountered the car in front of us falling into a ditch (which was thrilling to watch). We saw a kind auntie wearing high-heeled leather shoes and a skirt helping to push... After we arrived at the B&B, the auntie followed us and said hello, and we learned that she was the boss here, and the person who fell into the ditch was not a guest here. She also mentioned details such as my family being unwell later. This auntie is really kind, and it’s not because she does this business, but because of the kindness of human nature. Before leaving, the family photo she helped to take made us exclaim ”WoW” again and again 👍It is very close to the core attractions such as Tulou (if you stay here, those popular check-in Tulou will be Fuyun), the big banyan tree, and the waterwheel, only a few minutes' walk; there are also many farm dishes nearby (some of them are overcharged and we have encountered them). It is recommended to buy a set meal on Dianping.com, at least the price is clearly marked. Although there are many people in Yunshui Yao Scenic Area, the experience is not bad. This accommodation experience is really pleasant! Of course, we have to be honest. Since the bathroom in the Tulou is a later renovation, please manage your expectations. I wish you all have fun and I hope the boss auntie will do better and better!

DDarylAs it wasn't a busy time and we were staying for a whole week, on check they upgraded us to the Wooden Loft Family Room, which was quite nice. The room was comfortable with big windows and a nice view across the stream to the forest. It was great to have a washing machine and the washing machine had a dryer function as well so we could still dry our clothes when it was cloudy and cool. The smart toilet was a bit disappointing as the controller wasn't very responsive and the flush was very weak. The tub was nice though the water was not quite hot enough to make it comfortable. Most of all we enjoyed the courtyard area and the breakfast/restaurant area, especially the tea room. They are really well designed and organized and provide a nice space to relax and read and write. The breakfast was quite nice, they provide a serving size based on the number of people, though it was often not enough for us and we normally asked for another serving. They also brought a fruit and yogurt platter to the room in evenings which we also enjoyed. The location is convenient to walk down to the Yuchanglou Tulou in Xiabancun, though part of the way will be on the main road which can be busy with traffic. To get to other areas such as Tianluokeng and Taxiacun it is also possible to walk, though again sometimes you have to walk on the main road as there is no walking path or small side road. There is a tourist bus service that goes between the scenic spots and you can even flag them down in between though you are supposed to have purchased a transportation ticket first and that is not striaghtforward to get if you didn't get it in advance. So, most guests come with their own car or rent one. If arriving by train, while trip.com shows the Yongding and Longshan railway stations as the closest, actually the quickest and most convenient station is the one at Nanjing. Also, because the hotel is within the scenic area you do need to purchase tickets to enter, either online tickets or paper tickets at the gate.

The decoration is in a nostalgic campus style, but the hardware facilities are not outdated. You can see the subtle care that the owner put into the room design. There will be several modes of room lighting to suit various needs. The wet and dry partitions in the bathroom are relatively reasonable, and the sewers are smooth and do not accumulate water. The water heater has a large capacity, so you can take a comfortable bath without any problem. It has its own parking lot and is very convenient for self-driving. The location of the B&B is very close to the viewing platform of Four Dishes and One Soup, which has the advantage of seeing the lights and entering the village at night. The landlady usually drinks tea in the front hall. When you pass by and she is free, she will invite you to drink tea and chat with her. The boss will tell you about travel strategies when he has free time, and even take you for a walk in person.

WWeThe host Ah Wei is a gem . He always greet you with a smile and accommodate our meal request . He will suggest certain local harvested vegetables which were so delicious , cooked by him. Knowing what we wish to eat for dinner, he ensured that the ingredients were prepared ahead as they needed a certain amount of time to season them.
He gave us good explanation of the various items we saw in the hall as we were both quite curious what they were. There was never an attempt to sell it.
He also gave us a good history lesson on the origin of their village, and the various tulos.
Finally, we requested his help for a transfer and because of his connections, it was well arranged. Thank you Ah Wei for welcoming us to your home and the 6 meals in your place were very very good.
