A perfect weekend getaway from the bustling city. Tucked away in the mountainous countryside of Guizhou, Zhaoxing Dong Ethnic Minority Village in only three hour ride via high speed train from Guangzhou. The village is quite developed, offering shuttle service to and from the railway station for 10RMB each way. You can also arrange a private ride for 50RMB into the village. The village entrance fee allows 6 days of access into the village for 80RMB. I chose to stay at the Comfort Zhaoxing Inn next to the canola fields, away from the main attractions for a quieter stay. I can see swallows swooping, bugs chirping, and frogs croaking in the fields. My room has floor to ceiling windows offering great views of the mountains, fields, and rice terraces. Remote villages in the mountains are also visible. The inn is ran by a friendly couple. They offer sumptuous breakfast with generous portions. They picked up and assisted with my luggage at the village shuttle station. The village itself is for pedestrian only. They offer complimentary shuttle services every 15-20 minutes that makes various stops if you don’t feel like walking. It was relaxing to stroll along the river and around the village. Instead of taking a shuttle (20RMB round trip) to the rice terraces of TangAn Village, I took the trail that the locals used for centuries before shuttles were available. The trail was paved, crossing creeks, winding through the mountains and rice fields for 7.5km with an elevation gain of about 1,000 meters. The views were spectacular and the food were amazingly delicious and very affordable. I used Zhaoxing Village as a hub for accessing other remote villages. Shuttle buses offering two departures to Huanggang, Basha ethic villages (about an hour ride). Though if there is not enough passengers, they may cancel the service. My stay was memorable, and I plan to go back when the canola flowers are blooming.

It was already late when we arrived at the Dong Village. A friend recommended this B&B to me. She said the owner was very nice. The B&B was inside the village and the environment was very nice and clean. When you book a room, they also give you clothes for taking photos and handmade cards. Unfortunately, we were in a hurry to go home and didn't have time to do any handicrafts.

Guest UserThis guesthouse is a hidden gem in the Dong Village! We booked the top-floor room with a 270-degree view, and it was absolutely stunning! There's also a public viewing deck on the fourth floor of the guesthouse, where we found a little bird tangled in a string, freed it, and let it fly away.
**Transportation:** The location is super convenient. Since the owner picked us up and dropped us off, we didn't need to buy shuttle tickets to the village entrance. Once inside the village, all the scenic area shuttles are free. The guesthouse is just a few tens of meters from where the free shuttle picks up, which is really handy. It's less than a ten-minute walk to the main bustling street.
**Environment:** Our room had its own private balcony with a view! It was beautiful even at night. Outside the window, you could see layers of terraced fields and the silhouette of the drum tower. Waking up to birdsong in the morning was incredibly comfortable and peaceful. Falling asleep at night with the warm glow from the balcony lights, every moment felt like living in a painting.
**Amenities:** The facilities are new and very clean. It has everything you could need: a bathtub, projector, smart toilet, refrigerator, sofa, and air conditioning. The disposable toiletries were also of good quality, and they even provided extra disposable bath towels for us.
**Service:** The owner is a local, very enthusiastic and organized. They asked for our high-speed train pick-up and drop-off times in advance, and on our last day, they helped us transport our luggage to our departure point ahead of time, saving us a lot of time to explore a bit more. The proprietress not only prepared authentic peaches and plums but also shared a lot of useful sightseeing information.
The room itself was clean and cozy, with thoughtful touches everywhere. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to experience the charm of Dong rural life! I hope this wonderful place doesn't raise its prices when I visit again, haha!

Guest User

Guest UserThe room was cleaned, exuding freshness and tidiness everywhere, creating a warm atmosphere that makes guests feel at home. What is even more commendable is the thoughtful service of the landlord. With just a simple WeChat contact, he appeared like timely rain and personally picked us up at the entrance of the village.
His service is not limited to pick-up and drop-off, but also a comprehensive care and concern. Such a landlord and accommodation experience are undoubtedly a beautiful scenery on the journey, which makes our trip to the Dong village have a deeper memory.

This place is conveniently located in the heart of Zhaoxing, and it's perfect to explore the town.
Furthermore, staff are really kind and available: they also helped us finding a driver to take us around several Miao/Dong villages in the area.
Hotel is also really nice: the common area is perfect to relax and spend some time, and also the room is comfortable and fully equipped.

Guest UserThe host is very nice and will pick you up and drop you off at the door of the B&B. He is also very easy to talk to, and the environment of the residence is also good. The aunt will clean and throw away the garbage once a day. The main city streets are nearby, which can be a bit noisy, but it basically quiets down after 11 o'clock in the evening. It is very convenient to go anywhere. Great👍🏻

B&Bs are all on stilts, and the wooden houses are not well insulated, so I just randomly booked this one. If you have trouble sleeping, you can choose to stay in a higher room or live outside the Dong Village. We live on the fourth floor. As soon as we entered the door of the B&B, the grandma who embroidered the sachets said to me ”Here we come” and it made me feel very warm. The boss will also pick us up at the entrance of Dong Village and help us carry our luggage. The landlady will wash and lay out the sheets and help us carry our luggage upstairs. He also asked us to walk softly, be quiet and respect each other. The room has plenty of hot water and the air conditioner is new. The location in the middle of the village is very lively. I thought it would be noisy when there was a bar singing at night, but it was okay. It's just that the height of the toilet room is low, and the roof leaks a little when it rains all the time. Before I left, I told the boss lady and she apologized to me🤦♀️ At night I only heard the sound of rain and the sounds of cats and roosters. When I woke up in the morning and opened the window, I saw rain hitting the tiles, and a kitten came to say hello. It feels like a family house. We are very careful when staying in it and even help to clean it up when leaving. I casually booked a B&B for a hundred yuan, and it turned out to be the most cost-effective B&B I’ve ever stayed in in Guizhou.
